What a beautiful day! We woke up knowing that it would be our last full day of vacation and wanted to make the most of it. The sun and rain were intermittent but that didn't stop us from soaking in the lake view coffee in hand while we made our plans. I decided to take a ride up the road in order to get a signal on the I-Phone and research directions to Allen Falls. We had already spent a day hiking and swimming in Stone Valley and that was a delightful jaunt but all the reviews said "don't miss Allen Falls" so I was determined to find it. When I arrived back at the house my 22 and 25 year old sons were ready for an adventure so we decided to stop at the Birchbark Bookstore before heading over to Allen Falls. So off we went with the smell of rhubarb pie (made with fresh rhubarb from the garden) still in our memories and on our taste buds. The bookstore was filled with volumes of books on every subject. At checkout we asked the owners for directions to Allen Falls because I never did find them on the Internet. They were a few miles from the bookstore on the other side of 72. We parked after the bridge on Allen Falls Road and made our way downstream. As soon as we arrived at the falls we were wishing we had brought our bathing suits because by then the sun was shining and the water looked so inviting. When we arrived back home, my husband and son made a few final casts off the dock with bait purchased from Kunoko and a license from Walmart. We cooked up the last of our hotdogs on the grill and my dear husband took me for a final canoe ride around the lake while the boys cleaned up the dishes. As I read my book on the upstairs porch and watched the sunset behind the trees, I felt so grateful for our week at this lovely cabin in Parishville, NY.
