A very special place to unwind

5 of 5
My husband and I and my cousin and his wife added Camp Bearberry recently planned a trip to Cooperstown and decided to add some time in the mountains of New York to our itinerary. What a great decision! Camp Bearberry was the perfect spot to kick back for a few days and enjoy the view of the lake, playing checkers by the roaring fire, and watching the leaves turn splendid colors. We had a day of rainy, cold weather, and what could have been more perfect than watching the fog slip across the lake and the sun rise the next morning explains the words "Mirror Lake." The house is great, especially if you like traditional Adirondack furnishings. The owners obviously love the house, and it is filled with special collections and original art. The house from the lakefront (shown in the photo) is charming, and well kept. It is not hard to imagine "campers" running up and down the stairs and playing on the lawn that stretches down to the water. The kitchen worked well for us, the dining room is one of my favorite rooms (BEYOND charming!), and in spite of the cold outside the house was very comfortable. Location is extremely convenient to pop in and out of Lake Placid, which is FULL of great restaurants and cute shops. There are other houses around the property (it isn't set off all by itself) but the Camp has plenty of "private space." The drive up to Whiteface Mountain was gorgeous with the Fall leaves. The owner was particularly helpful in recommending places to eat and things to do (we loved lunch at The Cottage and dinner at the nearby Pub at Lake Placid Lodge). We loved seeing the rink where "Miracle on Ice" occurred! We would love to go back in the summer when we really enjoy the lake itself, perhaps starting in Montreal and driving down; however, flying out of Albany was a breeze, and the drive from Lake Placid down was just over 2 hours and a great foliage tour. Many thanks to Kathie S for all of her assistance! Camp Bearberry will always be special for all of us!

50th Anniversary Family Celebration

5 of 5
We stayed here to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary and it was a wonderful and memorable weekend. The weather was perfect and the foliage had started to change which served as a breathtaking backdrop for this spectacular home. There were 16 of us and we all had plenty of room and were never crowded. There are many common areas for people to congregate. The house is exactly as represented in the pictures. It was very bright and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with everything necessary to prepare meals. The beds were comfortable and clean. The large bedroom with the pull out sofa is considered another master and is at the end of the house underneath the other master with the sitting area. The one on the lower level has walkout access to the patio and the master above it on the upper level has walkout access to the balcony. The lower level suite has its own stairs, so it offers a bit more privacy as it is separate from the lower level bunk room, large game room, and bedroom with the 2 twins. There are 2 washers and dryers available and plenty of parking for numerous cars. The breakfast room has a new gas fireplace and a couch with a pullout sofa. We loved the large living and dining room open floor plan with the wood fireplace and tons of seating. We even all worked on a jigsaw puzzle around the coffee table. The only negative was that the wi-fi was slow, possibly because the home is so large and there are no tvs in the bedrooms if you prefer that. Overall this was a wonderrul experience and the rental company was very professional and easy to deal with. We all felt like we were pampered. I will definitely recommend this property to others.

Lovely Fall Spot

4 of 5
This is a very spacious, gracious old home. We found everything we needed at the house and spent our time cooking, sitting out by the pool, and visiting the Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant just up the street. We were a group of 12 so the house was more than big enough for our needs. The kitchen is fairly well stocked with glassware, dishware, and pots/pans for cooking though we really would have loved some sharp knives and a pancake griddle for the big breakfasts. I would definitely recommend the house to others and would plan to come back myself with my family.
