We have just returned to the city after our simply idyllic weekend at Harden House. We were two couples and a small dog and could not have asked for more- peace, beautiful scenery, creature comforts and one of the most lovingly cared for houses. Sterrett, the owner, met us upon arrival (and was very gracious considering we got in quite late) and could not have given us a better introduction to the house, its history, the area and all it had to offer. Since it was the holidays, she had decorated with a gorgeous Christmas tree and all of the trimmings, plus there were decorative holiday accents all around the house, but it was evident even without it being holiday time the house would be charming with its unique furniture pieces, light fixtures and design elements.
Just a few highlights from our group:
Kitchen/Dining: We chose to cook our meals at home and the kitchen was very well appointed with everything you would need (and them some!). Sterrett has a gorgeous collection of platters and statement serving pieces so we loved making each meal feel like a special occasion. The outdoor grill and appliances were all state-of-the-art and super easy to use/clean.
Lighting Scheme: As funny as it sounds, the lighting of a house really brings it to life and highlights its best features and we all agreed Sterrett must have been very thoughtful in planning all of the lovely antique lamps, sconces, pendants, and so on. We loved having the house feel truly "aglow". We also could not help but have a fire going pretty much constantly, what with the super-efficient fireplace and strategically placed firewood. The living room really became the hearth of the whole experience.
Beds: These were some of the most comfortable beds we have slept on in a rental house-- all with memory foam with lots of plush bedding. It was perfect to keep the heat down and cuddle up!
Property: The property itself is gorgeous with such a great sweeping view to the several acres of the back yard. Our city dog really enjoyed stretching her legs in the yard and while there are two roads abutting the property, we could barely hear the cars pass from the house and felt very private.
While we didn't dine out, we popped into several of the markets and shopping suggestions from Sterrett and all were terrific. We had been familiar with the area because we had previously hiked at the two parks/preserves so we had easy access for some great outdoor fun too. We will be back!
