The Taos House Retreat provided the perfect setting for our Freeman Family Reunion. The house is beautifully decorated complete with a walled garden and a hot tub. This adobe home provided the ultimate Southwest experience. It is the perfect getaway or in our case provided a warm and welcoming retreat for a family reunion that was a bit difficult as we lost two of our family members this year- our precious Mookie, age 30, who fought courageously but lost the battle to muscular dystrophy, and his grandfather, our Uncle Ed, a D-Day survivor, inventor of the machine that squirted cream into Twinkees, and in his retirement, set up two bakeries in Zimbabwe. The Taos House Retreat provided the perfect balm for our family at this time.
One evening, as we sat in the beautiful courtyard, we experienced double rainbows over the mountains and the next evening we enjoyed a lightening show that we felt was our own private fireworks display.
The scenery is stunning and the adventures numerous. We enjoyed hiking in the Valle Vidal as well as Williams Lake. We took a tour of the Boy Scout Ranch, Philmont. One of our favorite adventures was rafting the Rio Grande with Cottam;s Rafting Company. Our guide, Tony, was interesting, informed, and passionate about his job. We also took the Taos Trolley Tour which took us to The Pueblo which is a must see.
Each day, as our adventures came to an end, we were welcomed home to the beautiful Taos House Retreat which was the perfect ending to our perfect days.. Our reunion allowed us to celebrate family and enjoy God's amazing creation in the peace and beauty of the Taos House Retreat. We are deeply grateful for this memorable experience.
