Perfect cabin for our week-long stay!

5 of 5
This cabin was perfect for our stay in Ruidoso! We enjoyed the hot tub and building a fire in the fireplace to make smores. We even had deer come up to the deck and eat apples out of my son's hand!! The house was clean and ready to go for us when we arrived. The kitchen was well-stocked with cookware and utensils and I taught my kids how to play rummy at the kitchen table in the evenings. We highly recommend Cornerstone Cafe for breakfast and goodies (french toast is amazing!) and Grill Caliente for dinner (tacos, salad, and burgers were delish). Mountain biking down Ski Apache was a blast and you will see beautiful views when hiking around Grindstone Lake. Also, if time allows, spend the day driving out to White Sands to go sledding (!!) and take the road home through the quaint town of Cloudcroft. The views are also amazing! We also spent a day at Ruidoso Downs, betting on the ponies. Ruidoso is charming, full of friendly people, adorable boutiques and we look forward to visiting again:: this time in the winter! Thank you Fawn Ridge Cabin!!

Cozy, quiet cottage

4 of 5
The area in which the cottage is located is very peaceful, which is what we were looking for as a break from big city life. The neighborhood is a mix of full-time and vacationing residents. The cottage reminded us of going to see grandma in that it's older yet homey and comfortable. The wraparound porch is a great place to hang out, and we enjoyed having our morning coffee and tea there while looking at the view. For most of our stay there was a constant cool breeze, which was great in that we could open up the screened windows and doors. It got a little toasty the final three days we were there, so the window AC unit was put to use in the early afternoon through mid-evening. Otherwise, the windows and doors were open. A ventilation fan in the bathroom is needed, but it's not something that is unmanageable. The owners are great communicators and responsive, something that is a big plus in our book. The breakfast table is a good spot for putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Our dogs enjoyed the stay, too, and made friends with two of the local dogs. There's great exercise in the form of walking to be had. Steep hills, so if you go down, you must walk back up. We enjoyed our daily walks and took different routes to see where we'd end up. There are many deer in the area. They come out in the early morning and early evening. They're part of the neighborhood, in that you'll see people in their yards and the deer will be nearby munching away on vegetation. We also liked the cottage's location because it is close to town without being in town. A short drive down the hill and we were in town. Glad for our stay.

Stunning Views and Home!!!

4 of 5
I guarantee you, this wonderful home is unmatched in views, location, and privacy! Yet you are close to town on all paved roads. Wildlife, especially deer, come by several times a day. It is quiet and peaceful and has an amazing deck, which we spent most of our time on, that and the hottub. The deck had several different seating areas so you can spread out if you like. There were always sunny and shady aras (at the same time), to choose from, depending on your preference or the temp. The views were amazing from each and every spot! The house was so amazing and decorated great. It was very cheery, welcoming, and comfortable! It has 2 living areas, main floor living room and in the upstairs master bdrm, so my husband and i, and our 2 children could each have some separate down time if wanted. It also has an A/C unit which most houses there don't have. We rarely needed it due to all the ceiling fans, the mountain breeze, and cool evenings, but did a wonderful job of cooling the entire house when used. That being said...there were only a few things i wish were different. None of the beds had any padding on them. No pillowtops, memory foam, feather padding, etc. This probably wouldn't be an issue to most people, but it is if you have any back or joint problems like we do. We stayed a wk, and i was pretty sore by the end of it. I think even a $40 memory foam topper from WalMart would help. Maybe i'm just spoiled, because our last 3 HomeAway rentals all had high end beds you would melt into at night. The other small issue was items being rationed, such as toilet paper (3 rolls per bathroom), trashags (4 small kitchen bags), dishwashing detergent (5 gel), laundry soap (4 gel), no free long distance, etc. This seems to be something you encounter when renting through an agency vs the actual owner. Again, this is something we've never ran into during other stays, but those were all done through the owner. We don't abuse any of those items, so having such limits made us feel like we were receiving rations. Those 2 things aside, this home was well worth it all! I would stay there again and again, sore back and all! :) We feel it had the best views of ANY home there and were all very sad to leave. Loved our wk there and were so blessed by our stay. Truly! Thank you Phil, Angie, & Children
