Lamy revisited

5 of 5
Three weeks in Lamy in 2010 were enough to knock off my feet for several months. That’s how long it took, to get 'back on the ground again, once we were back in Amsterdam. And even after four years, there still was this yearning to go back to Lamy, so we (my wife and I) decided to act upon that and returned to Lamy to see if this truly is the magical spot on the Northern hemisphere I hold it for. We drove from Chicago to Lamy. Seeing the sign ‘Welcome to New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment’ made my heart jump with joy. The arrival at Lamy was remarkable. It was quiet. As quiet as Lamy can be during 23 hours a day. But when we entered the guesthouse it was like we left it only the other day. It was like the house welcomed us, and not only the house, we had a heartwarming reunion with the extended Zunkel family and friends. It truly felt like coming ‘home’ again. We spend two weeks in Lamy. What can I say? The house is wonderful in every aspect. We enjoyed every minute there, especially when we build a fire (temperatures dropped suddenly) and had long nights of reading at the fireplace; Lamy is the charming sublime nothingness itself; The Romanelli-Zunkel family and Silvie demonstrated great hostmanship and made us feel like being part of the family. Often, going back to a place that made an impression, is a bit disappointing. Following our hearts and revisiting Lamy turned out to be the best thing we could have done. After this second ‘Lamy experience’ we can truly say that Lamy is a unique and magical spot on this earth. So is the house. So are the people.

Great place, great location, great owners

5 of 5
What a nice place to stay in quiet Pinos Altos. Perfect location with walking trails from the back door. The owners were super nice. East 10 minute walk in the evening to the Buckhorn Saloon which we can confirm as advertised that it is the best restaurant in 3 counties. We had the best meals there in all of NM. The casita was very clean, welcome basket in the fridge and Luna the dog will come to visit if encouraged (doggie biscuits supplied). We would stay here again without a second thought. Highly recommend visiting Gila cliff dwellings.

Peaceful, Quiet, Solitude

5 of 5
This place was a gem! We enjoyed wonderful views and many of the sunrises were spectacular! Every pot, pan, and utensil one could possibly need for meal prep was available. There was an extensive video and book library including wildflower, bird, and tree identification. There were sightseeing pamphlets, maps, and more. We had four conference days in Albuquerque and added five vacation days. We had stayed downtown several years ago, but decided we'd had enough of the city, so this became our base. We took scenic day trips and even a couple days of enjoying the lounge chairs with pinon coffee and reading. Scones and bear claws from the new bakery with cups of coffee tasted even better when seated on the patio chairs watching the scrub jays. Brad was available to answer questions such as best places for hiking (several are off the Sandia Crest Road) and where to get a flat tire fixed (that occurred because of trash on I-40). We have rented many homes over the years and this was one of the best. Yes! We'll stay here again if ever in the area.
