We stayed at this hotel's sister property last year (Mineral Springs). While we loved the idea of the location, ski mountain, etc., we were less than satisfied. We decided to try Grand Cascades Lodge out and found this unit available for the dates we wanted.
The hotel was beautiful and the unit itself was heavenly! Beautifully appointed with, what I think, is the best location in the hotel. The porch was enough of a draw, but the rest of the unit was sensational. Heated floors in the master bathroom, robes, and gas fireplaces were some of the pluses, along with the general decor.
I have stayed in VRBO rentals (as I was a VRBO owner up until this year), and sometimes the furnishings are nice, but are "rental house chic". This unit made me feel like I didn't have to give up luxury for price. I look forward to renting from these owners again in the future.
As for the hotel, the Biosphere pool area was great. We were able to dine at Latour one evening. The hotel's concierge got us Vangie as a babysitter (she was incredible!) and the whole experience ended up to be the most exquisite meal I have had in quite awhile (including NYC). The staff at the restaurant was informative and welcoming. We were hoping to go on the cellar wine tour the next afternoon, but the snowboarding was too much of a draw.
The whole organization seems to have really stepped up their game since last year's visit. The ski area, Mountain Creek, appears to have their act together. We had lessons every day and my sons' snowboard instructors were wonderful. The shuttle service to the ski lodge was convenient. My only complaint about the entire trip was that the mountain was so crowded on Saturday. I'm hoping that the company recognizes that they already have outgrown their lodge space. However, it's a small complaint in an otherwise PERFECT long weekend!
