My husband and I had a special time at the cottage over Labor Day week. We wanted a place to “get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life” and celebrate our anniversary. We brought our own motor boat and enjoyed exploring the calmer bays past the channel since the lake can get pretty rough especially in the afternoon and I easily get seasick. My husband loved fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass (note: he caught several smallmouths over 2 lbs. and a 3 lb. largemouth). He tried to fish for salmon one morning, but the wind and waves picked up later, so we ended up buying salmon in North Conway when we visited the White Mountain National Forest. We kayaked in the morning and in the late afternoon when the lake was calmer. We loved watching the sunsets from the beach. My husband especially liked seeing the loons on the lake since they don't seem to be shy and come very close. I still can’t believe how many pictures we took every day there! We can understand why Ron and Louise enjoy their lake house so much, because they have one of the most scenic views of the lake (mountains and sunset) from their balcony and beach. We couldn’t see the view from the cottage, but going to the beach - relaxing under their guest cabana on one of their complementary chairs with great WIFI and watching the sunset - was good enough for me and felt like “Almost Heaven!” Sometimes I felt like I was at an ocean beach resort, instead of on a lake. We grilled almost every day and also got to cook over the outdoor fire pit on the beach one evening and roast marshmallows. We brought some DVD movies and watched them at night. It was nice to have the option of having the windows open and using the ceiling fans or using the AC when it got really humid out. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well every night. One thing I noticed was that I never saw one mosquito – not even at the beach after sunset and when it was dark! I don’t know if that’s typical around there or because it was later in the season, but that in itself made my vacation…”Almost Heaven!” Ron and Louise are so friendly and hospitable. They live on the property and were always available if we needed anything. They made us feel so welcome and at home. If you are looking for a place to relax with beautiful sunsets, enjoy fishing and are willing to explore the lake to find the best fishing spots, and have owners that look out for your best interest, then you found the right place!
