I like to hike. I mean I really like to hike. A long way, all day. And that’s exactly what I did on Hailstone ranch on most of the days of the two fantastic weeks I spent there in June.
That’s just one reason to recommend the Crazy Mountain Cabin. As well as the eleven thousand acres of beautiful ranch land to explore complete with its stunning views, nature, peace and tranquillity there’s the lovely cosy cabin with everything you need for a memorable Montana ranch vacation. If you’re not into hiking you can just sit on the deck looking toward the Crazy Mountain range and let the days drift by.
Your hosts Barbara and Lee couldn’t be more accommodating. So friendly and always on hand to give you information and tell you about the hidden spots on the ranch but never overbearing. Such lovely folks. Not forgetting their friendly dog Nelly.
You’ll never want to leave this place, but if you do there are beautiful drives to be had. Yellowstone National Park is only about ninety minutes away. However, you may feel a little stifled among the hordes there after the tranquillity and solitude of the ranch. If you really need an urban fix the cities of Billings and Bozeman are both drivable. The local small town of Big Timber is fifteen miles away and has a couple of great bars with excellent food. You can also get provisions and fill up in town for those long Montana drives. A great local drive I would recommend is just south of Big Timber along Old Boulder Rd, past McCleod and onto Swingley Rd. The scenery all around is just stunning.
If you’re looking for a true get away from it all Montana vacation you can’t better than this.
