An Affair to Remember or To Catch a Thief. Both beloved movies paint the beauty of life on the Mediterranean Sea and the dream of living on the French Riviera. Our months living in Villa Medicis with sea views and morning expressos on the balcony could have been a scene from either classic. Only thing missing was Cary Grant to share a fine Rose at sunset watching the sailboats coming into the port. Can't have everything, but our hosts Lili and Claus certainly tried and succeeded to make this apartment an experience to remember.
My family was fortunate to find a place to live during an extended stay for business that seemed more like a vacation each day. I walked my son to school each morning with many of the neighbourhood families where faces became familiar each day. The walk back was along the beach before starting my business day. We walked everywhere as Monaco and the surrounding Beausoleil are the safest place on the earth to live or vacation. Though a car is needed, I enjoyed the natural "work out" of climbing the stairs from Blvd d' Italie to Villa Medicis. For runners, the beach and roads are pedestrian friendly as are the people in this area.
Snap out of paradise for a moment for some reality. The apartment, Villa Medicis is lovely and fully furnished. For those of you who have never lived in France, a clothes dryer is a luxury and this apartment had a large size one as well as every other amenity you would expect in a nice home. Parking space was a plus as parking is always a challenge in the Cote d'Azur. The local store only steps from the villa came in handy for the stables....a baguette, cheese and wine. Ok, milk and cereal for the kids as well.
Villa Medicis seems like home in a quaint French village yet a pleasant 30 minute walk had you in the middle of any James Bond flick with the Casino and Monte Carlo Yacht Club in the background. From there, we would stroll up the Rock to see what the Royals were celebrating at the Palace or visit the new exhibits at the famous Oceanographique Musee.
Thank you , Lili and Claus for your hospitality and flexibility to accommodate our schedules and to be available at all times by email and phone when needed. French not required to live here but your German TV was great with news and shows in 12 different languages. A bientot mon amis.
