Wonderful Wintery Getaway

5 of 5
Stayed for a 3-day extended-family weekend with Janice C. (see other review). We selected this location for the cozy looking couches, the fireplace, and plenty of extras that would entertain our group during the weekend. A blizzard was approaching, along with frigid temperatures, so we knew we'd mostly be indoors. What a treat that weekend turned out to be. The owners were super easy to work with, and helpful, but not at all intrusive. Before we arrived, I contacted the owner and she helped me arrange for a bouquet of flowers to be placed in the master bedroom, as a special treat for my mother. The owner took care of everything and the flowers were perfect! After our first night there, the expected blizzard was in full force and one of our cars was stuck in the snow. Not only was there someone there to plow the driveway/walkway, but he also got our car unstuck. Nice! Nearby was a cute little family owned grocery store called DeMond's. They had everything we needed and even brought the groceries out to the car for us. Back at the cottage, life was good. The photos do not show that the living room, kitchen, and pool/ping pong table are all in a large Great Room area that looks out to the water. This open space concept is ideal for a group vacation. While cooking we were not isolated from the group and had everything we needed close by. Of course, there are individual rooms to retreat to, but most of our time was spent in that space. Literally, everything we needed was provided, and then some - large ice machine, tons of cooking utensils, spices, oils, vinegars, Keurig, cozy blankets, and more. It's also really nice that every bedroom has its own bathroom - great for privacy. There is a how-to binder that explains everything in the house, and includes information on the area. On our final day there, the skies cleared, the sun shown, and we all enjoyed a day walking around Saugatuck and doing some winter shopping. Just enough was open to make it fun, but not crowded. We all talked about wanting to come back during the warm weather months to enjoy all of the outdoor perks offered at this location. Nicely done owners.

5 Stares is inadequate. 7 is more appropriate.

Every sight, touch, smell, and emotion is overwhelmed with subtle elegance. Nothing is contrived as an overstatement or gaudy attempt to fake luxury. The home is right in every way. I wish I could buy it. All amenities from the linens to the soaps, the world class kitchen to the state of the art Espresso machine, and the craftsmanship everywhere make you wonder how you ever deserve to live like this. I have never been in a home that was perfect. If you could stay in the Biltmore mansion you would miss this home.

really wonderful

almost hate to give the upcoming glowing review, for fear that people catch on and our under-the-radar little secret here becomes not so secret. it's a very sweet place. it's cozy and clean and really just exactly what we were looking for. arrived in time for two plus days of howling wind, horizontal snow, and freezing temperatures, and this home was, for us, a really ideal place to be holed up. open floor plan, kitchen well equipped, comfy furniture, and nice character (artwork, decoration, furniture). bathroom clean and, no small thing, seriously awesome water pressure in the shower. plenty of linens, towels, etc. logistics and communication with james was easy. if you pressed me to make a critique, the only things I could honestly say would be "bring a bar of soap" for the bathroom. seriously...that's it. it's a great place, and we'll be back soon. thanks so much james, love your place!
