Lakeside gem, with every amenity imaginable!

5 of 5
This was our second year at Bass Lake, and it's just absolutely incredible. We spent our honeymooon here last year, and are looking forward to many more fall anniversary trips! We selected this cottage because of the amenities - you couldn't ask for anything more! In no particular order, the cottage has: a covered outdoor jacuzzi, two kayaks, paddleboat, rowboat, firepit, hammock, gas grill, private pier with shallow swimming area, wireless internet, cable TV, gas fireplace, and deck overlooking the lake. And if that weren't enough, they now have a pontoon boat for rent and a *beautiful* bunkhouse with a washer/driver for use. Honestly, if Paul and Jean aren't more careful with their thoughtful and generous amenities, we may not leave to return home next year. ;) The cottage itself is very cozy - even though we've had more rain than sun on the weeks we've been there, we've enjoyed cooking (kitchen has everything you need) and cozying up under blankets with Netflix in front of the fireplace. Although we didn't use the bunkhouse this year, we are looking forward to having another couple join us next year and stay there. It has a two-person futon, *really nice bathroom*, TV, small table, washer/dryer, and two twin beds in a bunk (wish I were a kid again - although it'd be tough to pick between the bunkhouse bunk and the loft in the cottage, which also sleeps two twins). To boot, the bunkhouse is really cute with its natural wood decor. They also allow pets (with deposit and extra care), which is a huge seller for us. We have a dog we love, and couldn't imagine relaxing without him for a week. Traverse City itself is totally awesome, too. Like the cottage, there's something from everyone - indie movies at the State or Bijou Theaters, many delicious dining options, shopping galore (including incredible resale shopping c/o the Resale Trail), biking along the bay path, tons and tons of wineries/tours, etc. The cottage is only 20 minutes from downtown (15 from box stores and Meijer), but because its tucked away on the lake, you feel like you're really secluded. One thing to note: you will need to clean the cabin thoroughly before you leave. We don't mind this and actually kind of enjoy it (almost like we're stewarding it into the future), but dusting/vacuuming/etc. may not be everyone's cup of tea before departure.

Had a blast at Heart Lake

5 of 5
Stayed with 2 families this past August, plenty of space and room to spare for 4 adults and 4 children. Super close to Gaylord to grab groceries or a quick pizza. The lake itself was fairly quiet at night, the water was very clean and clear. Sadly the fishing is not very good. Anyway, we loved jumping off the dock for a swim and the use of the boat was a great addition to our vacation. The beach was a bit small this year due to the long cold winter and raised lake level. It was a bit cramped at bonfire time but we made it work. It was actually perfect for the kids to play on during the day, very sandy and not mucky. Large property and great deck on the back to relax after hours. We used the lakeside table for dinner twice and loved it! The front yard is huge, we played some bocce and soccer out there with the kids. The interior of the cabin is spacious, lots of room for us all. We didn't even use the basement as we were mostly outside. Plenty of beds, I wish the main floor bedroom had a queen instead of a double bed but it was fine for us. My only complaint would be that the kitchen is very small. No way around it really, we made it work, but it's tight in there with even 2 people. The kitchen is fairly well stocked, the grill was very good. It's not mentioned but there is a really nice park just up the road 5-10 mins walk for the kids to play. Swings and equipment. I thought I would add that as it's a huge bonus to those with young families. Richard is a very professional and organized owner and cares for his property. I would not hesitate to rent it again.

Great rental property

5 of 5
This is a nice house, about 10 minutes away from Traverse City and about 40 minutes from Sleeping Bear. The house and property are exactly as advertised. The property is secluded, and has several docks and lake access points along the property. The lake is beautiful, and great for swimming. We spent one whole day just going from the lake to the hot tub and back. Our 3 kids (ages 9, 8 and 4) had a great time. There is a bike trail just down the road, that we did not use, but looks nice. Moomers ice cream is a few minutes away, and was fun for the kids. The owners live on the opposite edge of the property. Distant enough that we never saw their home. Clse enough that the property was well maintained, and they were available if we had any questions. They also mailed us back a few items we left behind. Overall, this is a great rental if you want secluded lakeside property, close to Travese City and Sleeping Bear.
