Couldn't have asked for a more relaxing get away. New Buffalo is only a short drive from Chicago but staying at "Nothin Dune" was like we were on one of the coasts.
My wife and two kids took the train from Chicago to New Buffalo Saturday morning. Its a short 10 min walk to the beach house through town and past some other really amazing beach houses. I drove in later that night--next time we might all take the train!
The beach house was perfect; clean and welcoming as if I owned it myself. There was plenty for room for my wife and two kids. The master bedroom has a great view through the sun room to the lake.
My wife and I love to cook so, while there are some great stops in town, we mainly cooked at the house. There is a large gas grill and fully stocked kitchen so we felt right at home.
Really, nothing compares to dinner on the backyard patio watching the sunset over the lake!
My brother-in-law and his family drove in from Indiana for two nights at the end of our stay. Again, there was more than enough room for 4 more--the kids really liked playing cards in the sun room and hanging out in separate guest house closer to the beach.
I forgot to mention the private beach! So nice not to worry about finding a spot and guarding your things. We'd bring some speakers, towels, coolers and spend the day bouncing between the water and the house--the water is really warm this side of the lake too.
Also have to recommend walking to the Stray Dog and grabbing a few drinks on the roof. The lower level is open to all ages but the roof is only 21 and up. Great service, drinks and views.
