Camp Flapjack was everything we expected and more.
The cabin was wonderful. It's well maintained, both inside and out. We were very comfortable.
The weather was perfect. The fall colors were spectacular. (We were told they were more vibrant this year than they had been in years.)
My husband and I spent many hours walking along the lake searching for fossils, following bird/animal tracks in the sand and marveling over the "shell" dunes. It was marvelous watching the sun come up over the lake, listening to the woods come to life. Although the deer were elusive, we were visited by hawks, Tundra swans, raccoons, chipmunks & a family of 5 bald eagles.
Before we left home, we had made a list of places we wanted to go & things we wanted to see. We ended up only doing a small fraction of what we'd planned, because we didn't want to leave Camp Flapjack. We could have easily used 2 weeks there.........one to go sightseeing and one to just kick back, relax & enjoy the surroundings.
Our recommendations? (Dan & Lynn, none of these are negative comments.)
Buy groceries before you get to the cabin. It's a drive to/from town. The remoteness, tho, is part of the charm.
Take waterproof boots. The area between the yard & the actual edge of the water stays wet, even when the tide is out.
Get up early in the morning to sit on the porch and watch the sun come up. You won't be disappointed.
I would definitely recommend Camp Flapjack to others...and have. We're looking forward to when we can go back.
