I would rate the property very good but not excellent. Alas, I had to mark either good or excellent.
Our family of four with kids of 7 and 9 years old spent four nights here.
The cottage/house is recently renovated and in excellent condition; also very clean.
It is on dirt road circa 1/4 mile from the busy US Highway 31, in a secluded area,
with trees separating it from the neighbors.
We were not bothered by the car noise while inside; you can hear some cars outside.
It does not have two separate bedrooms, in the sense that two beds are in the loft,
in a large area that is not separated by a door from the main area (living + kitchen).
Only one bedroom is separated by doors. Both loft and living areas are large.
The furniture looks new and is nicely arranged. The three beds are very soft and squeaky;
we would have preferred firmer mattresses. The lack of AC was not a problem during our stay,
and there are many fans. I did not see any landline phone (none is advertised). Our cell phones
sometimes worked and sometimes did not.
From the items that were advertised, there was no dishwasher. Laundry equipment worked perfectly.
In the backyard flows the Sauble river. It was too fast for us to use the kayaks or the small rowing boat (there was one); someone experienced and strong may be able to paddle on the rivers.
We thought about paddling downstream to Ludington State Park, while one drives the car
and then we tie the boat on top, and bring it back, but did not dare to do it.
We did cross the river on foot, and it's bottom is mostly sand. We saw a few very small fishes.
While the backyard and river look pretty, in June there were so many mosquitoes one has to
move continuously while outside. We also gave up using the outside fire place,
or the nice rocking chairs on the porch. With all the blinds up, one has a very nice view from
the inside living area.
We were satisfied with the price and location (IMO, best alternative to camping if visiting the
The Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness area of the Manisteee National Forest),
It's 10 minutes driving to the restaurant area of Manistee and 15 minutes to its lakefront/riverfront.
We tried some inland trails of the Manisteee National Forest - but were chased out by the mosquitoes. Inside the house there were several useful maps and brochures.
The agents were prompt and professional.
We visited all that interested us around this area; otherwise we would stay again.
