A Great Family Adventure

5 of 5
We came to this area for a family gathering. Especially enjoyable was the large screened in porch (with swing) facing west, and the very short walk down to the beach. The sunsets were beautiful. The beach was great - sand, smooth bottom, no rocks, warm shallow water for a long ways out. Perfect for our grandchildren aged 3 and 6. The historic nature of the house and unique décor made this a real adventure for them! Close to Mackinaw City attractions for those that wanted to explore. Accurately depicted in the listing. Everything worked and we did not need to buy anything during our stay. Beautiful fireplace although we did not need to use it. I would recommend bug spray, and extension cords especially if anyone requires CPAP machines for sleep. Electrical outlets are sparse as you would expect in an historic house. The stairway to the 2 upper bedrooms is steep and a full flight. The frig has a very small freezer. There were 2 driveways for off-street parking which accommodated all of our family. Owner Ross and housekeeper Denay were friendly, helpful and responded to our phone calls/emails quickly. We didn't experience any problems during our week long stay here.

Great getaway, Perfect for two!

5 of 5
My husband and I wanted a quick getaway from our 3 kiddos before he started a new job. I am so glad I found this cabin! We arrived on a Thursday and Mike greeted us and showed us around the cabin. He was so kind and helpful. Then we were surprised to receive some very yummy homemade treats from his wife, Linda - cookies and banana bread! The cabin is just as it is pictured and was very cozy and comfy for the two of us. It had everything we needed! The bed was very comfortable, the coffee pot worked and we had hot showers... what more do you need?! The location is great too. We headed over to Wilderness State Park and hiked for 12 miles followed by dinner in Mackinaw City. We wish we had brought our cross-country skis since there was still enough snow! We learned that night that Mackinaw City is actually a VERY small town when it isn't the peak season. There isn't much for a grocery store and we learned the hard way that it closes early! It worked out fine though. We were able to pick up some basics at a gas station and make it until the next day. Friday we drove up to the UP and had the whole east end to ourselves! We went snow-shoeing at White Fish Point and Taquamenon Falls and had a great fish dinner in St. Ignace. The sky that night was absolutely amazing, just down the road from the cabin, right on the beach! Thank you Mike and Linda for a wonderful few days. We can't wait to come back and to send our parents there as well. They will love it as much as we did!

Beautiful Home

5 of 5
When we arrived, I was first struck by the open space in the kitchen and dining room, and the beautiful view of the lake from this area. My 1-year old really picked up her walking skills in this area. Mackinaw Island was only open for one more day, so after enjoying the island, we spent most of our time in the home enjoying some family time. We would love to come back in the summer when we can actually enjoy the water as well!
