"Feeling at Home" while away at Blue Cottage

4 of 5
Our family of 10, ranging from 1 to 50 in age enjoyed the cozy eclectic atmosphere of this southern, MI, "5 minute walk from the great lake" cottage. The weekend stay was just right for us this time with sunny September skies and 2 beautiful sunsets, even after a late afternoon shower. Shops, eateries and other local attractions looked inviting but we ran out of time---just enjoying the comfort of the cabin and the fresh beauty of Lake Michigan. A welcome basket from owner Rickie brought a personal touch with local goodness! Thanks Rickie for the Apple Pie Bread and fresh Coffee Beans--(plus the toaster and coffee bean grinder; making "fresh" even fresher and "yummy even "yummier"! We loved the fall décor, burning candles on the porch and table, vintage bikes-cute for our young lovers, the "just right" slammin' screen doors. the fire pit with the awesome grate and...more! We even helped ourselves to a pot of mint tea from along the sidewalk! The front screened in porch made for lovely sitting! Amazed at the space (fun big closets) yet the closeness it offers we would recommend the Blue Cottage to families like ours! The photos we enjoyed online when looking for a place to vacation became the places we walked through, sat at and nestled into, for the night! Thank You for your accuracy in presenting The Blue Cottage! A few small details-we didn't find the yellow garbage bags mentioned for recyclables. Hopefully our trash separation was helpful to the garbage pick-up service. Was there a pitcher in the kitchen for beverages? The pretty one with the beautiful arrangement was all I could find-(didn't want to disturb the added "touch"). The can opener wasn't functioning properly for us, may need a replacement:). Other wise, very well-stocked we were thankful for the beach towels, games and even the bathroom scales upstairs! Thank You for trusting us with your cottage; filled with all things livable! Blessings to you and your guests to come...who knows, it may just be us again at some point:)! Sincerely--Doreen Mast for Donny and the kids too

Forest retreat

4 of 5
My wife and I just spent 4 nights at the Lakeside Cabins Resort. It is a gated community that is open during the day, and gated off at night. It is located about 1.5 hours from Chicago, though my wife and I kept remarking that we felt like we were in the Adirondacks or Seattle. The setting was perfect. We loved the grounds, the lake was great, and the cabin had a back deck that was right on the lake. The fishing was great! I caught a lot of sunfish/blue gill/crappie, but I saw a lot bigger fish in the lake - possibly muskie/walleye? The lake was beautiful, but the LED light/sprinkler was very tacky. We felt that the lake would be much more scenic and beautiful without the LED light/fountain in the center. My wife and I pretty much had the resort to ourselves, as we were there in mid-September, during the week. It was great. We enjoyed the community bonfire pit behind the community center for a couple of nights. It would have been a bonus if we were able to have a fire at our cabin, but this was just fine. We also used the community center to play ping pong, foosball, Pac-Man, and some pinball games. The grounds were amazingly clean and well-kept. But the cabin we stayed in was a bit of a problem. The carpeting was stained and dirty, the pillows were stained and gross (the management did bring us a couple of new pillows, but we ended up using the ones we brought with us), the blinds were broken/bent, the outside cushions on the chairs/benches were covered in mold and unusable, several lights were broken and/or missing a bulb altogether, and the main TV/stereo did not work. I guess it was a good thing that we didn't have cable, but I wanted to watch the football game (the one time I watched TV the entire trip), and I had to do it with my own mobile data - set up a hotspot onto my computer. Not a huge deal, but the management sent out the cable guy, which we had to deal with - and was one of the things we came to the woods/cabin to escape. The management was nice about the situation and ended up refunding a night's stay. So that was much appreciated. We enjoyed going to Union Pier/New Buffalo - only about 5-10 min away, and visited several wineries/breweries/distilleries (Round Barn and St. Julian) while in town. We really recommend you visit Jenn and St. Julian - she was great! We will definitely be back, hopefully sooner than later.

Very well taken care of property

We got in and got settled very easily. The second night we had 14 for dinner, using the gas grill. It was great to have enough plates, eating utensils and really nice serving dishes. That is rare in our experience and very welcome. We were very pleased with the obvious thoughtfulness you have put into the cottage for comfort and convenience. We really enjoyed the screened porch and the front lawn garden. The cottage lifts our spirits. Everyone remarked on how nice the place is. My wife particularly noted the level of cleanliness--very much appreciated. So thank you very much for the level of thought and planning you put into your cottage. It made our stay most enjoyable.
