Great, Affordable Getaway

5 of 5
We were so pleased with our accomodations -- they exceeded our expectations. The cottage interior is cozy and comfortable, done in" pure Michigan" knotty pine; the full-size kitchen and outdoor grill are perfect for enjoying local foods your way (but if cooking's not your thing, Bud's and The Hofbrau in Interlochen are two great casual dining options); the heating system worked well on the chilly weekend of our stay; ditto the nice hot water, something we don't always experience Iin rentals. The bedrooms were small but comfortable. There's a nice view of and easy access to quiet Bass Lake. The property is just minutes away from Interlochen and is also a convenient base camp for day trips to Benzie County, the Leelanau Peninsula and Traverse City. The only caution I'd offer about the property is to be careful using the rustic stairway down to the dock, just because one of us was nursing a temporary infirmity.

Interlochen Flute Choir Attendees

4 of 5
My friends and I attended the Flute Choir week at Interlochen and stayed at the Ranch again this year. We are always made to feel welcome. There were some problems that popped up that were unavoidable. They were taken care of immediately and no incovenience to us. Thanks Linda for another enjoyable stay! The house is a very enjoyable bike ride to Interlochen, and everything was supplied for us.

Perfect location for 3-generation getaway

4 of 5
This was just right for our Labor Day family getaway "Up North" with six adults and two children ages 3 and 4. The house was spacious enough that we never felt like we were on top of each other, and I think that has a lot to do with the remodeling that the owner must have recently done -- I loved the separate dining space off the entrance, and the upper level is just stunning. There was a desk for those who needed to get some work done (unfortunately!). Our little ones loved the small bedroom off the upstairs, and the adjacent den was a great spot for them to watch movies and play yet still be close enough that the adults could hear all was well. The lake is "across the street," but we're talking about 15 steps and you're there. The kitchen is VERY well-equipped -- plenty of dishes and glasses for everyone without having to run the dishwasher constantly. The old stove worked SO great! One burner seemed a little less hot but hey, that's part of the charm. Everything was in working order, and the house is even nicer than the photos make it seem. The porch swing, or "swing chair" as my 3 year old called it, was a HUGE hit with the kids and adults. And the small fire pit/ring in the front yard was JUST perfect for s'mores after dinner. Like others have said in reviews, the location is grand as well -- away from the high prices of Traverse City but close enough that you can go to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor, Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas, etc., and not feel like you've been in the car the whole trip. There are two large, well-stocked grocery stores only a couple miles away, which made making meals at home convenient and easy. The only *slight* negative was the size of the bedrooms on the lower level, especially the one that uses the bathroom in the hallway, but after one night, we felt like it was just part of the cozy charm. We would stay again in a heartbeat.
