Four of us decided to leave the TX heat behind, and spend the month of August in MI. We're seniors and golfers (of sorts) and were interested in cooler temps, pretty scenery and comfortable places to read on our Kindles when we weren't out sightseeing. The Trillium cottage fit the bill! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, (although we didn't put it to much of a test), and the weather was cooperative. We only had the AC on three days! Our favorite golf course was little Traverse Bay, a hilly course with lots of hills and views of the bay, and about 3 miles away. We are nine-hole players, and we found that nearly all of the courses had a twi-light nine-hole rate, including most of the Boyne courses. We played two of the Boyne courses next door to the cottage, and enjoyed them very much. We also played Crooked Tree which is hilly and pretty. The nine-hole rates aren't published, so you have to call the 800 central golf res number and they'll put you through to the pro shop.
Favorite restaurants included Douglas Lake Bar and Grill, Little Traverse Bay Country Club, The Palette and Twisted Olive Cafe which are next door to one another in Petoskey, and Kilborn's Fish Restaurant outside of Harbor Springs. Be sure to have an olive burger someplace...they brought back fond memories of my teen years in Michigan!
Be sure to take the Kilwin's Chocolate Factory tour in Petoskey, and whatever you do, DO NOT FAIL to try their salted caramel ice cream...to die for.
The owners were very easy to deal with. The house is in good shape and well cared for. It was a great month!
