We have vacationed on Lake Charlevoix for about 20 years and have had difficulty finding places to stay because there are few hotel chains in the area. To stay on this lake, you either need to camp (several options) or rent a home which can be quite pricey.
This year we rented this condo unit for 10 days. It was wonderful! We found it spacious and comfortable and CLEAN!
I especially liked the first floor location--close to beach and parking. It was great not having to deal with stairs or an elevator every time we went out as usually our arms were full.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were larger than we expected. There is also a laundry room which was so convenient. The kitchen is small but has the essentials needed to prepare a meal. We mainly used the gas BBQ on the outdoor patio. One thing this condo has that other places may lack is central air conditioning. Because of the northern Michigan location, some homes do not have central air. For the last two years it has been quite warm (80's to 90's) and sleeping at night can be a challenge without AC.
The beach is very usable for sandcastle building, kite flying, bonfires, and a quick cooling off. It is shallow up to the boat docks which is nice if you have young children. There is an outdoor faucet right next to the patio that can be used to wash off sandy feet, etc.
We really used this condo mainly for sleeping because there is so much to do in the area. This year, we took a raft trip down the Jordan River. Rental rafts, kayak, canoes, etc are about one block away from the condo.
Boating is one of the main activities in the area but if you do not own a boat there is a marina (Swan Valley) about 1 mile from the condo that rents wave runners and boats. We have rented from here in past years.
The condo is about 15 miles from downtown Charlevoix where the streets are lined with petunias and there is plenty of shopping, restaurants, and site seeing. Other trips we have made from here include Mackinaw (1 1/2 hour drive), Petosky, Beaver Island and the Upper Pennisula. If you like biking, there is a wonderful bike path that extends from Charlevoix to Petosky. East Jordan, where the condo is located, also has some restaurants and a grocery store that is one minute away.
Lastly, there are the stars! On a clear night, the stars are incredible as there is not a whole lot of light pollution.
I hope we will return here every year.
