Wonderful Northern Michigan Retreat

5 of 5
Our group of 3-4 families has traveled to Northern Michigan for a summer vacation for the past 22 years. We are returning to this Burt Lake property this summer (2015) for our 5th year in a row. This lovely home is well maintained with all the amenities you will need for relaxing, as well as numerous activities in the surrounding area for a variety of interests. We always bring two boats with us, and the state park has a boat launch just down the road. There is a large deck by the water for the sunbathers, curl up on the comfy outdoor furniture to read a book, the chain of lakes to explore, and our fisherman caught 21 walleye last year, which was great for our Friday night dinner. The golfers in the group have several courses to choose from. We love the location, as we venture to Petoskey for shopping and casino that is 30 minutes away, Mackinaw City is 40 minutes away, a walking bike trail in downtown Alanson that you can take into Petoskey, and the smoked fish at the canoe place in Indian River is always a must stop. The home is beautiful with the granite countertops and hardwood floors, but it has a very "comfortable" feel without feeling like you cannot "live" there for a week. The owners are easy to work with and respond to any questions in a timely manner. We would highly recommend this vacation property!

Very nice property.

Nicely decorated. Quality furniture. Furniture may be alittle too nice for small children--concern about possible damage. Access to lake was a bit disappointing however we spent most of our time on Mullett Lake and only swam once at lakefront. Enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful, secluded, relaxing vacation home

5 of 5
At the risk of sharing this "secret" called Burt Lake, I had to share our positive review of this home. Our group of 10 arrived to a welcome gift in the kitchen - cookies and pie - and all the wood stacked for a bonfire on the beach. What nice touches.

The home - inside and out - is just as pictured. One nice surprise, the common areas are wide open - the kitchen, living room, dining room and sunroom all flow together. The kitchen and bathrooms are updated and much nicer than a rental house needs to be. The bedrooms are small and comfortable. Two of the bedrooms are master suites, which is perfect for two families traveling together.

This home itself is in the perfect location. It is on a quiet dirt road, set back far from the road and close to the water. You hardly notice the neighboring houses due to the gorgeous, mature trees and each house has such a huge lot. The lake frontage is sandy, shallow and not weedy. The homeowners just added a mooring buoy so we were able to tie up our pontoon boat and fish every day. If you bring or rent a boat, the community boat launch is a very quick two-mile drive away.

Burt Lake is amazing! It is a huge lake with clear water, a sandy / shallow bottom, and hardly any boat traffic even when it is busy. During our visit we learned just how desirable the west side of the lake is - where this beautiful home sits. The water was as calm as glass for 6 of our 7 days. The breezes cool the house in the afternoons and evenings (of course there is air conditioning, but we didn't turn it on during our stay in August). Although it would be easy to travel to other northern Michigan cities from this house, we appreciated how secluded and relaxed it was. We ventured out to Petoskey (25-30 minutes) for ice cream at the Bob-In Again, Pirates Cove putt-putt golf and last-minute groceries.

The owners were easy to work with during booking and very helpful when we forgot multiple items at checkout. Overall, we highly recommend the home and we can't wait to return!
