We had a great week at the Burt Lake Chalet. The property was as-described, and provided a perfect home-base for our family as we took day trips around northern Michigan. Our young kids enjoyed the yard and play set and we all rested easy in the comfortable beds and sheets. It was clean but not immaculate, we quickly felt right at home. The kitchen is very nice and stocked with the essentials in terms of cookware and dishes, but not much more. If you are a picky cook, it may be worth bringing your favorite pans, knives, and wine glasses, since you may not find all the cookware you need. (I couldn't find a pan there to bake my homemade pizza in, our family's Sunday night tradition.)
Since there is no wifi and in case you aren't interested in the DVDs already there, it would be worth bringing along your own favorite games and movies and doing your research of the area ahead of time (finding maps, trails, etc.) so you can unplug, kickback, and enjoy all that northern Michigan has to offer during your stay.
The owner, Gary, provided us with all we needed to know ahead of time and was great to work with as we lined up our stay.
The home was in a nice quiet area, and we enjoyed our adventures from there. There are a few trails we rode mountain bikes on right from the chalet. We also rode the paved bike trail from Oden to Petoskey one day, drove to Macinaw City, and visited Ocqueoc Falls. One night we drove up 119 to Legs Inn and enjoyed a great meal and great view. There are options for ice cream in Indian River and McDonalds has free wifi if you need it. :)
Perfect for families, we'd recommend the Burt Lake Chalet to those looking for a great value and the perfect location for a northern Michigan get-away. Thanks Gary!
