There can be few places like this on earth

5 of 5
We spent over 3 weeks at Casa en las Rocas and wished we could stay forever. The location, the architecture, the decor, the service... all of them so exceeded our expectations that despite staying in some amazing places all over the world, we unanimously agreed that Casa en las Rocas was the most incredible place we'd ever been. The house was built by an architect who'd also designed a swank hotel in Zihuatanejo, and it showed: the space worked brilliantly and everywhere you put your eye there were really pleasing design details. The pool has the best design I've ever seen, with areas we could sit and my 1 year old son could walk, shallow sections where we would lie semi submerged and my son could play and splash, and an infinity edge overlooking the ocean where waves crashed on the rocks and in the distance we could see whales. The house was pristine and beautifully decorated: contemporary and minimalist but with lots of interesting and quirky details. The photos don't even begin to do it justice. The staff looked after our every need in a very unobtrusive way and they cooked us fabulous authentic Mexican food. They were also just very sweet and friendly (and great with the kids!) and made us feel right at home. I can't say enough good things about Cass en las Rocas. It worked really well with families and little kids, it was super fun with a big group, it was brilliant for a 60th birthday party, it would be an incredible honeymoon destination, it's got plenty of adventures on the doorstep and surfing nearby but is totally private and secluded and you could equally just never leave the estate. It's an extraordinary house. We don't usually go to the same place twice but we will be making an exception.

Dos Palmas and Troncones are awesome!!

5 of 5
We spent the first week in April at Dos Palmas in the sweet town of Troncones and it was absolutely amazing. The photos do not do the house justice. It is so comfortable and well taken care of. It is obvious that Emmet and Kelly take a great deal of pride in their Troncones home. We truly fell in love with the home and the town. Dos Palmas is located at one end of a beautiful sandy beach with great boogie boarding just steps away. An easy walk to town and a favorite restaurant just two doors down on the beach - Robertos. Do try the coconut shrimp!! The property is lovingly looked after by Alberto and Sofia, both of whom are super helpful if there is anything you need including dinner reservations, horses back riding etc. Sofia and her lovely daughter even cooked dinner for us one night. We did visit some other towns (Ixtapa, La Saladita) while we were there, but for us, nothing compared to Troncones and the perfect beach right outside our door. We had no idea that one of the favorite activities of our group would be horseback riding on the beach. So fun to gallop through the surf. I almost forgot to mention the sea turtles that we saw coming up to lay their eggs on the beach - so cool! In an effort to increase the chances of survival for these endangered animals the folks at Robertos take care of the eggs and then release the baby turtles into the sea when they hatch. I really can't say enough good things about Dos Palmas or Troncones - we were there with another family and our three boys 11-15 and anyone of us would go back in a heartbeat.

Simply Perfect

5 of 5
"Wow" is the first thing you say when you step into Casa Las Tejas, for this place feels more like a private resort than a vacation rental. While the house is large and well appointed, it is the lush landscaping and expansive property that make this such a memorable experience. And the views! The outlook from the house and the pool over Manzanillo Bay are simply gorgeous. On more than one occasion we spotted whales passing by as we were sitting in the spacious living area. I do think that Playa Troncones must be one of the best kept secrets in all of Mexico. The weather is perfect, the water is warm and crystal clear, and the surf is great for surfing and little kids. Really, it doesn't get much better than this. Even during one of the busiest weeks of the year, Troncones feels uncrowded and relaxed. There are a number of great restaurants (Roberto's is very popular), and the cities of Ixtapa and Zihuatenajo are only 30 minutes away on a new highway. And if you want you can rent a boat to take you to Ixtapa Island for snorkeling, or you can go into the cities for golf or other activities. While we had rented cars for our stay, you could probably get by without one. The staff were warm and friendly and super helpful whenever we had a question or a request. The house is really well maintained, and the grounds are immaculate. We were two families - four kids and four adults - and we felt we had more than enough space. Highly recommended!
