Charming, Spacious House in Gringo Gulch

4 of 5
We were excited about Casa Marfil from the beautiful pictures on the website. When we arrived, we noticed the beautiful gated door that welcomed us. We quickly found the rooms exactly as they appeared from the description. The house was clean and we were further welcomed by the housekeeper, Laura. She had prepared a delicious melon drink that was so refreshing. We also had asked her ahead of time to prepare dinner for our first night since we would be tired from flying. The house was perfect for our family of 10. We had ample room to spread out, the ability to cook our own meals, and enough space to relax and enjoy the views and wildlife of the River Cuale after each days' adventures. We even took one day just to stay at the house and rest. Some of us took naps while others read and listened to music. We especially liked the location which was close enough to all the buzz of the beaches and activities but yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet streets and day to day life of the locals. We utilized the walking bridge down to Isla Cuale everyday and enjoyed strolling in the shade past the market vendors on our 10 minute walk to the beach. Our favorite places were the Malecon for strolling, Fredy's Tucan for Sunday brunch, Adobe's restaurant for an evening dinner, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe for Mass, and the flea markets for souvenirs. We also requested a transfer to and from the airport which was arranged by Lupita through Superior Tours. The driver was excellent and made a grocery stop so we could pick up supplies for the week. We also booked two additional excursions through Puerta Vallarta tours for a trip to San Sebastian and the Pirate Adventure/Mahahuitas beach day. Because of the location of the house, we were able to walk to the pick up point for the trip to San Sebastian. The house was also close to a bus stop where we caught a city bus to the Maritime Terminal for the Pirate Adventure. We also took a city bus back and walked the short distance to the house at the end of the day. We will definitely recommend Casa Marfil to our friends who regularly vacation in PV and hope to visit again. It's nice to know what to expect and what worked for us. It will make our next stay even more enjoyable!

Great family vacation

4 of 5
Our family of 9 stayed at this very nice home. We had plenty of room, enjoyed the patio, and liked that the home was a short walk to downtown. The property was well maintained and the manager was very helpful. The only complaint we had was the jacuzzi needed an internal heating system, the water was shaded so stayed cool.

Amazing property! Would stay again in a heartbeat!

5 of 5
The description of this property was accurate; in fact, I would say that words cannot describe how beautiful this house is--nor can the pictures do this house justice. I stayed there for 5 weeks starting with the first of February, and I hated having to leave. The property was extremely clean, the views are ridiculous, and the open air makes this house unbeatable. I will gladly stay there again if it's available. Thierry--the owner (and chef of Cafe Des Artistes) was extremely hospitable and responsive to my requests, as was Carolina (the assistant)--this really helps when you need something or need some recommendations--you can't beat them on service. Also, a super-sweet cleaning lady (Nicol) comes by twice a week to help with laundry, dishes, and general cleaning services at the house--this is an excellent service to have when you're at a house like this. The rooftop, living room, and master bedroom views are jaw-dropping--you can see a huge part of the bay, down into the neighborhood, and can see the Malecon (boardwalk). The house sits on a hill almost completely on its own. Nearly every window opens up in the house, and since you're on the hill, the air flows freely through the house. On a sunny day, you cannot beat the rooftop. At night, the lighting in the house is perfect--many of the lights are on dimmers, so you can adjust down or up depending on your mood. There is a fully-stocked kitchen with all kinds of cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, glasses, etc--if you feel like cooking, the kitchen is definitely setup for it--and there's a dishwasher to help. As well, there's a washer/dryer in the laundry room that works great--no need to take your laundry anywhere. If you wondering about security, there's an alarm system on the house, so you can feel safe that when you're gone, your belongings are secure. There is also a huge gate at the bottom of the steps as well as a very secure door to get directly into the house. It's a bit of a walk up the steps to get to the house, but it's worth every last step--the views make it worth it. You are about a 5-minute walk down to the Malecon--about 6 short blocks down the hill. The house is in El Centro--the real part of town. The great thing about this location is that you can walk to the north shops, south restaurants, or Malecon in just a matter of minutes. Overall, I highly recommend this house to anyone--you get privacy, views, security, and the essence of PV all in one house.
