This was our second stay at this Seven Gates house. We were a group of 5 including small children PLUS another large family that visited each night with their older kids. The home gave us all the comfort of space to play, to gather and eat together, to relax in a perfect tub, or to curl up alone with a book. The outdoor property is wonderfully maintained with lovely lawns and a charming pond where the kids found hours of play. The outdoor patio seats a large group for dinner perfectly, as does the indoor dining room. In the mornings, the kitchen and adjoining sun room give early risers (i.e. parents and their youngest children) a place to hang out without waking the rest of the group. The kitchen is carefully equipped with attention to vacation comforts -- selection of good coffee makers and a milk frother, two fridges (for stocking beverages and food), griddles for perfect pancakes, all the proper tools for lobster night, grilling, etc. When we were ready to head to the beach, there were coolers, towels, umbrellas, and Jeeps for the quintessential drive to the water. The beaches -- Grays and Saltworks -- are both exceptionally beautiful, preserved, and above all, private. We were there on a hot, summer weekend and shared the beaches with only 1-2 other families. The view -- back to land or out to sea -- is pure, just the occasional boat in the distance. The swimming is ideal for visitors of all ages -- a shallow, gradual entrance to quiet, comparatively warm water in which one can actually swim. At both beaches, there are docks with places to jump off and ladders for climbing out of the water to repeat the fun. Grays is the better beach for a stroll. The house itself sits on an enormous wooded property with tennis courts and miles of maintained trails. It's a wonderful, cool, and quiet place to go for a run. At the end of the day, everyone can easily find a shower or bath inside, but folks may hold out for the divine outdoor shower. The owner has brilliantly located the shower on the quietest, most private side of the house and dispensed with walls/door etc. A raised shower head rains down onto bluestone set at the top of a little stone path. There are countless places to enjoy cocktails and appetizers and the dinners described above. At the end of it all, we slept soundly on feather beds, lulled by the lovely breezes that come through the house. Best vacation we've had in a long time. Highly recommend!
