We slept four in this tiny two bedroom cottage, which is as authentic as they come. My wife and I took the queen bed while grandma and baby slept in the two twin beds.
The location is fabulous. Roll out of bed and go for walks on your very own nearly desolate beach, enjoying the views of Sankaty Head light. I would go fishing at sunset every day. We spent a couple days at the beach directly behind our house. Note that Wauwinet has a bit rougher waves than the big south facing beaches like Surfsife and Nobadeer. Swimming felt great but note there will be rougher waves and the currents on this side of the island bring some extra seaweed. We saw lots of seals and caught stripers and blue fish.
The home itself rather spartan -- and that is part of the charm. The living room is small; the only problem would be entertaining yourself on a rainy day. The kitchen served our purposes; we cooked breakfast every day, and we also cooked lobster (full clam bake including potatoes, steamers, and all the trimmings). We also used the grill to cook burgers on the rear deck.
Wauwinet is my favorite part of the island due to being far away from the madness of town. It's about a 15 minute drive to the middle of town, a very nice drive indeed.
While 15 minutes from town, the house itself is situated across the street from a handful of small cottages. You will encounter the people renting these cottages as they access the beach path, which is right next to the driveway. Obviously, as you walk up and down the beach you are surrounded by multi-million dollar beach houses.
We really, really enjoyed this house. If you are looking for an original Nantucket beach house, right on the ocean, this is definitely worth a look. You might get more amenities looking inland, but the on-beach location will make your vacation a truly special one. We really enjoyed our time here. Thanks again.
