This is the very nicest cottage you can find in the area of Truro/North Truro/Provincetown/Wellfleet. I know this from experience, having stayed elsewhere before. The cottage is perfectly located: 150 yds from the upscale general store (excellent wines) and nearby café, 150 yds from one of the two most beautiful roads on the Cape, a ½-mile walk that leads to the bay beach and sunsets beyond imagining.
Inside the cottage, everywhere are signs of the owners’ eye for detail and design. The cottage is perfectly appointed, with all the equipment you’d need for serious cooking. It is comfortably furnished and elegantly finished, with paintings everywhere, mostly by the owner (a major artist who shows at the major Provincetown gallery, Berta Walker). The cottage has a lovely large screened porch with views of the back garden, where birds abound (I’ve seen the resident red-tailed hawk, also other hawks and ospreys). Upstairs, the bed is more comfortable than my own at home (firm, high-quality new sheets (flannel in winter), all manner of pillows, every kind of blanket/quilt/throw). Rob and Janice, the proprietors, are very solicitous but unobtrusive. I’ve stayed here 5 times, usually for a week. Rob and Janice were alert to my needs, but they left me alone when they sensed I wanted it. Being able to do my laundry was a big plus. Chickens permitting, you may receive an occasional fresh-laid egg for breakfast. Rob and Janice were happy to inform me what to see and do in Provincetown and Wellfleet. Though busy with their own projects, they are perfectionists as well as committed hosts: an unbeatable combination.
In fact, partly thanks to them, I have just bought a house nearby. All praise to Rob and Janice for their beautiful cottage and the way they host it. Hear, hear!
