Having had grand parents—to love and learn from—both people of the late 19th century, with the attitudes, aesthetics, and sensibility of a different world than now, I can only say that Monument Beach would have been a place they would have lived, and loved, as much as their beloved house "Balcony".
The charm of Monument Beach is undeniable. Broad, wrap-around porches that look out to the bay focus the attention of a visitor first arriving at the house. No traffic or noise interrupts the view or grace of the moment. This is a different place to see and behold. Romantic and nostalgic times and feelings are what the house evokes.
Spacious rooms with charm and character are easy to feel at ease in. Modern amenities, such as lighting, heat, AC, water pressure, kitchen equipment, electricity, are all present, but not simply 'updated' but integrated into the charm and character of the house. Rooms are furnished in keeping with the character of the house—nice beds—but sleeping isn't how you'll want to spend your time.
Windows, stairs, sea, and sky are what make this house so special. Yes there is much to say about this place, and as hokey as what I've written may sound, it is the feeling that this place imparts. I love this house and the feelings it guides me to.
This is a great place to have family, friends visit. Clean and inviting open and real.
