a perfect weekend

5 of 5
What an absolutely picture perfect getaway! In the middle of a snow covered Narnia-esque scene, lies this charming, warm, and inviting cabin. You instantly have that fresh winter cabin smell upon entering. Everything was so comfortable, from the couches, to the queen sized beds. And the fact we were able to dim the lights created a soft, pleasant dinner atmosphere. The skylights in the bedrooms allowed for a beautiful night sky and lots of light in the day time. Plenty of hot water for 4 people to shower. An abundance of towels, linens and blankets. The heat kicks on fast and warms the entire house, but the downstairs bathroom could use a door to seal off the draft from the laundry room. However, they provided 2 extra electric portable heaters just in case, which worked great. Wine by a crackling fireplace made for an enchanting, romantic evening after a very cold and snow-filled day. We spent hours curled up under one of the many soft blankets provided, with only the fire and candles giving off light. The perfect end to an exciting and adventurous weekend! The lake is only steps away, and breathtaking in the winter. We walked across since it was solid ice! Thank you for the experience! We WILL be coming back again and can’t wait to see it during the warmer months!

One of the most picturesque locations in the berks

4 of 5
Rustic setting, but the view of the lake and watching the kids from the summer camps water ski and sail made the home exceptional. Close proximity to GB and easy access to rt 7 a real plus.

Perfect

This house on Lake Buel is exactly what I was hoping to find -- something that reminds me of camp as a kid, but with people I actually like. I just wanted a place where my family could have fun and relax. That's what this house lets you do. Close enough to the lake that you can swim or kayak just seconds after you think, Hey, I'd like to swim or kayak. A view of the same lake that lets you enjoy the water even when you're not in it. It's also close enough to Great Barrington -- its great restaurants, grocery stores, and ice cream shops -- that you're in the woods one minute and in the thick of it the next. For us, the location (about 1.5 hours from our house in central Connecticut) is ideal. The house itself is perfect, too -- it's exactly what we wanted when we searched for a place on a lake. All of the technogizmos work great, but we hardly use them. It's not how we like to unwind. And the place is rustic, which is what we wanted. Who wants a swank condo for a summertime, lakeside respite? Here, I actually read books. I unwind. We take long afternoon naps. We cook a lot. And we spend our time playing in the water, collecting rocks, and coloring with our two little girls. The best part about the place, though, isn't the place at all. It's the people. Lois and Bruce couldn't be nicer, treating us (and everyone, I imagine) like extended family -- not in the creepy, geez, we wish they'd go away kind of way. They have their space, you have yours, but their home is as open as are their hearts.
