        GB ON A (BIG!) HILL

        4 of 5
Loved the location, and the privacy. Climbing the hill more than a couple times a day might have gotten old (especially if one was carrying groceries), but it was a nice, short walk to Main Street and all its amenities, and a little hill-climbing meant one could indulge in some of GB's delicious ice cream without feeling too guilty - not to mention a pizza lunch at Baba Louie's! Owner was very helpful, and responsive to phone and email queries. She offered many suggestions and recommendations concerning locations, things to see and do, and places to dine. The property was clean, well maintained and as advertised. If I have one small criticism, it is that, for me, it was slightly claustrophobic. There were so many sheets, towels, dishes, chairs, pieces of furniture, books, and even rugs, that it sometimes felt crowded, despite being a pretty roomy house. It's a minor quibble, however, and nothing that should deter anyone from renting the house. If you have any interest in theater, I would highly recommend you take in a show at "Shakespeare and Company" in Lenox. It's a company of highly talented actors who always give a great performance.

We rented the house for the month of February. The space was enough for our family (2 adults/2 kids). We were there weekends and one week, mostly to ski at Butternut. The house is conveniently located, although you need 4WD/AWD to negotiate the dirt roads with all the snow. The owners were wonderful to work with and attentive to any issues we experienced. We enjoyed the home and it's cozy, quiet atmosphere. We walked to the lake in the mornings & took in the stars at night. The kids built a nice sled track in the yard. The kitchen is small but adequately appointed. I brought my own knives & pots, as I love to cook. I could see it being much more geared toward summer renters (outdoor grill, blender, etc). The washer/dryer are a stacked, apartment sized. The bedrooms are nice sized with a big, empty dresser in each, however the wall doesn't come up to the ceiling so sound carries between the bedrooms/LR/kitchen (we knew this before renting, however, it took some getting used to). We loved sitting in front of the propane stove/fireplace in the evening playing board games. The porch is nice, separated from the kitchen/LR by a door, which offers some privacy. The beds & futons were comfortable, everyone slept well. Overall, it was a nice cottage to rent for the month. Thank you.
