The pictures of the house indicate charm, history, and quaintness. Truthfully though,as cliche as it may sound, the pictures don't quite do this special house justice. Upon entering the house, one is greeted with an immediate sense of warmness that only a house that is well loved for many years exudes. The house was built in 1792, and many original features such as hand hewn post/beams (scattered with axe marks) and plank flooring exist in fine detail. My partner and I are both interested in history, and so, the house was an especially perfect retreat. As we surveyed the two adjoining living rooms, with a fire roaring briskly (we only used one of THREE fireplaces on our trip), one could easily imagine the original inhabitants living their lives in the MA countryside....stoking a fire, preparing meals, discussing the ramifications of the recently ended revolutionary war, gossiping about Washington's "goodwill tour" of 1791, or simply chopping timber. The feel of the house was one of a "living museum". I have stayed in many home away properties, and I also have been (and stayed in) quite a few historic homes, but the Chapin's Sugar Hill Farm ranks at the top. Cozy, warm, welcoming, and easy are the adjectives that spring to mind. A true gem for the Holiday season! Also, a note on the owners: Chip was an absolute pleasure to work with. He provided us with invaluable information not only in regards to the house, but the chesterfield (and beyond) area in general. Fantastic! Highly highly recommended.
