                    NICELY TUCKED AWAY

                    5 of 5
This was our first time in the area so we had no expectations. The property is about 15-20 minutes from the actual Lake, however we liked the fat that it was hidden away and very quiet. The place is a very good size, with a kitchen immediately upon entering, large living room, huge picnic style table, and 2 bedrooms with 1 bathroom off the kitchen. There is also a functioning laundry room. The rear yard is large and the hot tub is close to the home, with the fire pit towards the rear yard. Overall a very clean, nicely maintained property. The owner, Laura, was very accomodating and met us with her mother when we pulled up. She was nice enough to bring us extra firewood on night 2 because we kept the fire going for so long on night 1. Day 2 was spent at Swallow Falls, which was about 10 minutes away. Highly recommend that. Bugs weren't bad, we kept a citronella candle going at the hot tub just to reduce them. The donkeys and chickens were friendly for the most part, and it was nice getting fresh eggs from a stubborn chicken each morning. We plan on returning with our kids later in the summer. Thanks again!

A PERFECT HIKER AND BIKER GETAWAY

                    5 of 5
We rent a lot of homes within the DC area and this home has by far been the best we've ever rented. We loved the quiet location and close proximity to the C&O canal towpath, Antietam, Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry. The local hike and bike trails are phenomenal for outdoor enthusiasts and walking on the towpath is great in summer because of the dense tree cover providing shade. We didn't even mind the lack of internet and cell access because it felt good to be disconnected for a change. FYI, Verizon never works well within the West Virginia area and probably will be hard to change. The house was immaculate and extremely well-stocked, and that's even allowing for doggie guests which is fantastic for us. Our dog loved the access to the river at Snyder's Landing (so will kids). Our favorite place to eat with dogs was Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown which allow dogs on their beautiful garden patio. We loved it and will be back in the spring to see the river without the leaves. Thank you, Catherine and David.
