Even better than pix! Loons, lake - loved it!

              5 of 5
We'd been looking forward to this all summer and our hopes were very high based on the beautiful photos and previous reviews -- and we were still blown away upon arrival. Absolutely beautiful spot, RIGHT ON THE LAKE. No matter where you're sitting inside, you will never be out of sight of water and trees - the perfect vacation view. The cabin is a great blend of charming older style, new modern appliances in excellent working order, and tasteful decor; it was super clean and ready to enjoy. We dropped our bags and plopped right down on the dock for a sit the evening we arrived and are now wishing we had booked another week. :) Loons calling and swimming in the lake every day were great entertainment and gave us that very "Maine" feel. Master bed is very comfortable and we loved sleeping with a cool breeze coming in the window. And even more we loved waking up, stepping out of the bedroom and being greeted with a 180-degree view of the lake. Took a few canoe rides when the lake was smooth and glassy in the mornings (it's a nice small size - plenty of space to putter around and explore but not worry about getting too far from home) and dipped our feet in the cool water after a great hike at nearby Pleasant Mountain. We cooked up a storm with a fantastic gas stove/oven and every pot/pan/utensil you could wish for, plus a dishwasher to make clean-up easy. Roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire pit one evening as well. Boat traffic on the lake was minimal -- some motor boats during mid-day and an older couple with a little white dog made the rounds a couple of evenings :) - but not in any way disrupting our relaxation. We didn't end up swimming as it wasn't ever really hot, but the water is clear and clean and very inviting, plus steps down off the dock make entry and exit super easy. We had one day of absolutely torrential rain, but the cabin stayed snug and dry and we enjoyed watching a movie or two with some hot cocoa. Finally - as a person who is usually covered in DEET during vacation, I was thrilled to find hardly any mosquitoes! Although we were so happy at the cabin, we only made one day trip, there are also some great little towns and places to visit nearby, including an actual drive-in movie in Bridgeton! Joy and Peter were super helpful, both with info before the trip and answering questions during. This place is definitely a labor of love. Just book it - you'll love it! We will definitely be back.

              Great week at the lake

              4 of 5
We rented both houses for a family reunion for my wife's family which consisted of 4 adult couples and 2 sinlge adults, plus 9 children ranging from 6 weeks old to age 8. The homes themselves were great and in the condition described in the listing. I wish I had known in advance that there was no air conditioning but now that I'm talking with others, that's pretty much standard in all of Maine for a rental property so the fact that it wasn't on there certainly does not reflect poorly on the property or the listing itself. The lake is very nice. It's large enough to do boating and other activities without feeling crowded, but it's not so large that there are a million people flocking to the lake for the day and filling it up and making you worry about the safety of children swimming around the dock. And it's a great temperature for swimming, kayak, canoe, etc. The owners were very attentive to our needs, as we had an unexpected plumbing emergency in the kitchen at 4:30am. They answered our call right away and had a plumber there to fix it by 7:30am, and this was on the July 4th holiday. The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the write-up doesn't make it clear the treehouse is across the street from the lakehouse. So while it is "just behind" in the truest sense, the write up could leave people with the impression that they physically occupy the same piece of property. There were 10 adults in our group all reading through the listing before selecting a house, and when we showed up we all had the same reaction that the listing made it seem to us that they were sharing land rather than across the street. With young children in the group (even those who are 8), it was unsafe to let them walk in between the two properties without an adult chaperone. The street is calm and remote for the most part, but there were definitely some cars flying down it at 35+mph at random times that would give me pause in letting a child cross the road unattended. I'd definitely recommend the two homes for groups with mostly older children or all adults, as the distance between the houses is short and for those who are older would have no safety issues with crossing roads.

              Week getaway

              5 of 5
I can't even begin to explain how much fun our family had. It was amazing from start to finish! The house was the perfect size and had everything you need for a relaxing week. I am already looking to book for next summer. We spent lots of time on the dock fishing and swimming and even kayaking. The fire pit was fantastic for cooking and enjoying cool nights. The deck was amazing with gorgeous views. We enjoyed dinners in and out and lots of shopping at local stores. We will back for sure, great for kids of all ages. Thanks so much it was just what we all needed!
