A great cottage on a great location

5 of 5
We have been vacationing in this area for over 20 years and this is one of the nicest locations we haved stayed. The cottage is somewhat elevated from the ocean level which allows a spectacular view to the southwest over Blue Hill Bay, the west end of Swan's Island and beyond to Isle Au Haut. The cottage was exactly as described although the physical description could not convey how very comfortable the place is. The layout is simple, bright and clean with everything one could need for a vacation stay. The deck was perfect for the coktail hour and wonderful sunsets. The kitchen had everything and more. Beds were comfortable, and with the southwest breeze at night you can bring the August night time temperature down to the mid 50's just by how far the windows are left open. Everything worked well, including the TV's and the internet. My wife was surprised to find the French channel on the TV selection as French is one of her hobbies. We have done mostly all of the usual local attractions, but one of our favorites is Island Cruises mid day boat tour out of nearby Bass Harbor to Frenchboro for lunch (BYO wine). On this trip, we ran into a school of 30-40 dolphins, which the Captian had never seen in all his years doing this trip. Sawyer's Lobster Pound in Southwest harbor has one of the best lobster rolls ever as attested by the August edition of Downeast Magazine as one of the best in the state. And, lunch on the terrace at the Bar Harbor Inn is always a must-do for us. Without any reservations, we would recommend this cottage to anyone. It lacks nothing and has everything needed for day to day living and vacationing. It's the kind of place you don't mind just hanging out and relaxing, which we did on several afternoons. It's also very quiet and you can hear the loons down in the cove early in the morning after the lobstermen have left at 5:30 am for their days work.

Perfect Vacation

This was our second stay at Cove House. The home has a great layout for our group of 7. We love the quiet of the location, the views out the back, and the quality of the home and furnishings. We would gladly recommend this rental to others!

Lovely home with beautiful views

5 of 5
Our trip to Maine was one of the best vacations we have taken, hands down. This rental property was a big reason why! We found the house perfect for our family (only three of us) and our dog. The views of the water are simply amazing. It never looked the same twice, the light or tides would change and we would be drawn to just be by the water. Our teenager and dog explored every nook and cranny of the rocky beach. There is so much to do and see, near the home and a short drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Now the house itself is fantastic. It is comfortable and cozy. The pictures do not do it justice. The windows are wonderful, the kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook in, and there are so many little things that were a nice touch. The property was clean and we did have an issue with the hot water that was repaired immediately. The outside landscaping was lovely. We loved the nearby community, Thurstons for lobster and we loved Beech Hill Farm, where we found a variety of local, organic and sustainable produce! Bar Harbor is a drive but the quiet nature of the location of this house is worth it. And there are several trails and activities that are closer, just check out Acadia's trail maps. If your looking for that Maine experience that you think you only read about in books, check this home out! Loved it!
