We have been vacationing in this area for over 20 years and this is one of the nicest locations we haved stayed. The cottage is somewhat elevated from the ocean level which allows a spectacular view to the southwest over Blue Hill Bay, the west end of Swan's Island and beyond to Isle Au Haut. The cottage was exactly as described although the physical description could not convey how very comfortable the place is. The layout is simple, bright and clean with everything one could need for a vacation stay. The deck was perfect for the coktail hour and wonderful sunsets. The kitchen had everything and more. Beds were comfortable, and with the southwest breeze at night you can bring the August night time temperature down to the mid 50's just by how far the windows are left open. Everything worked well, including the TV's and the internet. My wife was surprised to find the French channel on the TV selection as French is one of her hobbies.
We have done mostly all of the usual local attractions, but one of our favorites is Island Cruises mid day boat tour out of nearby Bass Harbor to Frenchboro for lunch (BYO wine). On this trip, we ran into a school of 30-40 dolphins, which the Captian had never seen in all his years doing this trip.
Sawyer's Lobster Pound in Southwest harbor has one of the best lobster rolls ever as attested by the August edition of Downeast Magazine as one of the best in the state. And, lunch on the terrace at the Bar Harbor Inn is always a must-do for us.
Without any reservations, we would recommend this cottage to anyone. It lacks nothing and has everything needed for day to day living and vacationing. It's the kind of place you don't mind just hanging out and relaxing, which we did on several afternoons. It's also very quiet and you can hear the loons down in the cove early in the morning after the lobstermen have left at 5:30 am for their days work.
