Excellent central location

5 of 5
Great for our multi generational family. Access to Bar Harbor and Acadia and all of the mid coast. Ample room and great weather. Blueberries were ripe and appreciated. Communication was excellent. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Family Vacation!

5 of 5
We have spent a few summers on the Maine coast, and had the most wonderful time staying in Compass Rose Cottage this past summer. We have two toddlers, and an English Bulldog, and the Cottage was the perfect home for us. The cottage itself was comfortable and clean, and the fully-stocked kitchen offered everything that we needed. The large yard and sandy beach provided hours of fun for our young kids (and dog!), and we spent many nights cooking hot dogs and roasting marshmallows at the fire pit on the beach. We love Stockton Springs as it always proves to be the perfect location for heading south to Camden and Mt. Megunticook or north to Acadia, and this summer was no different. Jan was an absolute pleasure to work with, and answered all questions that we had before and during our visit. I would highly recommend this house to anyone interested, and we look forward to coming back!

Summer vacation

5 of 5
Our second time renting here, and have had a great experience both times. The views from this property are spectacular (and having grown up on the coast of Maine I am used to pretty views). The panoramic includes the hills as far east as Camden, and past Castine to the West, with the panoramic made more beautiful because the property sits up on stone ledge/bluff/cliff that is about 40 feet above sea level. The setting is very quiet and peaceful. Walking the beach on Sunday morning the porpoises sounded like whales because it was this quiet (no kidding). There is no traffic noise at this location from a highway, a local road, the street on which the house sits . . . none. There is a pig next door . . . but we have never heard it (really). We only saw it once. The stars at night from the deck are beautiful (can see the Milky Way when the moon is not out); the sunsets are beautiful. The house itself was fine. It was clean, has all the amenities, and the owner is very helpful if you need something. It is an 'open' floor plan so early in the morning or late at night one needs to take care to be quiet, but we had no issues with this. There is access to sea kayaks and bikes at the house. There also is loads to do within an hour of Stockton Springs in terms of history and art: a state park down the peninsula that you can walk to and go swimming off of the pier; Camden; Wyeth museum in Rockland; Castine (French, English, Dutch, neat local museum); Belfast (old district is beautiful and has an excellent, high end restaurant . . . Del Vino's?). A little further away are museums in Brunswick (Bowdoin) and Waterville (Colby), both with world class exhibits from time to time, often in the summer to coincide with the tourist season. The beach on which the house is located is a stone beach and searching for sea glass is fun.. So, this is a neat place to spend a week! (or two . . . and I am in no way related to the owner).
