The Cottage on the Crest

5 of 5
The cottage on the crest is quaint and peaceful. We were greeted by the glow of a lamp in a seaward window, a sailors welcome home. Our thoughtful host and hostess surprise us with a gift basket of fresh fruit with artisan bread , local eggs, butter and milk. What a wonderful way to start our relaxing journey. The cottage is pristine . Luxurious linens and comfy beds. All the comforts of home plus games , books and television for entertainment though we chose to explore the island. We discovered the private beach where the unspoken words are" leave only footprints". The walk through the fairy woodland is relaxing. Islanders are friendly - there were stories of the history in the area, welcome waves as we strolled by and bowls of water left out for thirsty pets. A short walk to McLoon's provided us with fresh crab and lobster. It is a gathering place for folks to enjoy dock side feasts. (And one evening a display of a double rainbow during a brief shower!) The smell of the ocean, the sounds of the marina and endless stars that touch the sea------ THIS is the essence of the Crested Cottage. We HIGHLY recommend you stay here and we wish to THANK our host and hostess for sharing this lovely cottage with us. DJ and Scott, Ellington,CT

Star D.

5 of 5
Perfect getaway with the solitude that we were looking for and a view that is beyond words. It was a perfect winter getaway. It was a spectacular setting with the snow and ocean. Even while sitting in the living room with the fire you still were able to see out the 2 picture windows. The cottage is very large and it felt like coming home. It had everything that we needed plus more. I cannot thank the owners enough, They definitely went above and beyond. My family and I have stayed at 20 or more vacation rentals over the last couple of years and I would place this at number 1. You are missing out if you do not go during the winter, the setting you will experience will stay with you for a long time. I also want to recommend if your looking for a local restaurant not one of those chain places is Rockland Café out of all the places we dined at they are the best. Fresh homemade food. (You would swear that your Grandmother or Mom was in the back cooking) Thank you again Jim and Linda for sharing your amazing home with us, We look forward to staying again. The Dyer Family

A Lovely Cottage in a Gorgeous Location!

5 of 5
Yellow Dog Cottage offers everything that’s to love about Maine: Gorgeous water views, tidal pools outside your door, and plenty to do within an easy half-hour drive if you want to shop, sample the local restaurants, or meander about and explore the area. We loved eating at Moody’s Diner on Route 1, and had plenty of leftovers for another meal. Within an easy half-hour drive you can visit the town of Damariscotta to the south, Damariscotta Lake State Park to the north, and the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland to the northeast. The town of Damariscotta is a treasure – we particularly liked King Eider’s Pub, Salt Bay Café, and the Maine Coast Bookshop. Damariscotta Lake Park is a great place to bring the family – the water is clear and calm, and there’s a wide sandy beach. The Farnsworth Art Museum is a great place to see the artwork of three generations of the Wyeths. The cottage is cozy, clean, and comfortable, and Katharine and Paul are very attentive and are genuinely interested in ensuring their guests enjoy their stay. I highly recommend Yellow Dog Cottage!
