NICELY CLOSE TO IT ALL WHILE WONDERFULLY FAR AWAY

5 of 5
This tidy cottage on a working dock was an idyllic retreat. The cottage is charmingly laid out and neatly laid out like a ship, just as the lobsterman who built it planned. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed the gentle hum of activity on the dock, as Skip (the master engineer and lobsterman manning the magical crane) swiftly settled in as the friend we all wanted to be like. My kids enjoyed exploring the plant and animal life on the island, including the tidal inlet, and jumping off the dock into the chilly waters. Just sitting on the porch, we were able to enjoy 4th of July fireworks from several nearby towns. Finally, Spruce Head Island was conveniently located close to Rockland for short shopping trips but far enough away that all our city-problems melted away. We look forward to returning -- we all want to catch up on Skip's wisdom, humor and news.

PERFECT GETAWAY; BEAUTIFUL HOME AND LOCATION!!!

5 of 5
I first visited the mid-Maine coast in 1997 with friends and family, and had a fabulous time. I vowed to recreate that experience at some point in my life, and 2013 was the year. After plenty of research, I decided to have our group stay at Crest House. It was DEFINITELY the right choice! The house is beautifully decorated with plenty of Maine country accents, and the owners, Karen and Brian, go the extra mile to supply the house with everything you need for a week of fun and relaxation. Spruce Head Island itself is stunning, and we were a stone's throw from McLoon's Lobster Shack and a short drive from the scenic mid-coast Maine towns of Owl's Head, Rockland, Rockport and Camden. If you have an opportunity to stay at Crest House, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

AWESOME WATERFRONT COTTAGE WITH ALL AMENITIES

5 of 5
We were blown away at the view when we arrived at this quaint cottage. The cottage was immaculate, and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. We were surprised at how many attractions were so close to this area. We had a very fun filled week. Leslie and Gordon could not have been more accommodating. We were told of a beautiful sand beach about a 5 minute wooded walk from the cottage and what a treasure! We hunted for sea glass and even did a little swimming. We had brought a picnic with us and had a scruptuous buffet on the beach! Our days started out with a blueberry muffin and a cup of coffee on the deck, watching the lobstermen hauling in their catch. One lazy afternoon, I took my book down to the shore in front of the cottage and lounged in the sun on my lawn chair. What a beautiful place for a midnight bonfire. On our one foggy day, we found puzzles, games, and were surprised that the sattelite TV had the pay stations, so we had plenty to do. One day, I asked Leslie where I could get lobsters and, low and behold, her husband is a lobsterman, and brought lobsters right to our door. He even gave us a lesson on eating them. Here is a wrap up of our day excursions: Mount Batty (beautiful views), Ferry ride to Monhegan Island, shopping in Camden (and saw the Windjammer ships), the Farnsworth Art Museum (Andrew Wyeth central), and here is a list of the many lighthouses we visited (Owls Head Light, Marshall Point, Pemaquid, and our furthest adventure to Acadia National Park and the Bass Harbor Light). Wow, what a week. We will be back. Overall, it was our best Maine vacation ever!!!
