Cozy cabin with beautiful views.

5 of 5
Wonderful little cabin for 4 is quiet, is private, and is lovely. We were able to enjoy the water in high tide, the beach in low tide, the house and yard at all times. The yard has sun & shade, woods and grass, paved roads, and paths off a beaten trail. We are looking forward to our next visit.

An Island of Serene Relaxation

5 of 5
Opening onto Seal Harbor and Penobscot Bay beyond, this well maintained and fully equipped house is an ideal retreat, off the beaten path. Visitors have the choice of lazily spending the day watching the harbor's constant activity literally at your doorstep, whether it is lobstermen pulling their traps, the odd seal or kayaker paddling by, or an Outward Bound expedition dropping anchor before the crews spend the night sleeping atop their oars; or those same visitors can pick and choose among a wide range of more vigorous activities available in nearby Rockland, Rockport, Camden and numerous other villages and towns. While we have a growing list of favored restaurants within easy driving distance, we probably grill out in the backyard on half the days we are there. (A recently opened clam shack 100 or so yards away means this make vs. buy decision can be made right up at the last minute.). This coming summer will probably mark our sixth or seventh stay there.

Nicely Close to It All While Wonderfully Far Away

5 of 5
This tidy cottage on a working dock was an idyllic retreat. The cottage is charmingly laid out and neatly laid out like a ship, just as the lobsterman who built it planned. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed the gentle hum of activity on the dock, as Skip (the master engineer and lobsterman manning the magical crane) swiftly settled in as the friend we all wanted to be like. My kids enjoyed exploring the plant and animal life on the island, including the tidal inlet, and jumping off the dock into the chilly waters. Just sitting on the porch, we were able to enjoy 4th of July fireworks from several nearby towns. Finally, Spruce Head Island was conveniently located close to Rockland for short shopping trips but far enough away that all our city-problems melted away. We look forward to returning -- we all want to catch up on Skip's wisdom, humor and news.
