My wife and I have been going to Mount Desert Island for a number of years now and we love the "quietside" of the island away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and the park loop road. This was our first stay at Mark's house in Manset and we enjoyed every minute of it. The house is comfortable, inviting and well-appointed. It has a spectacular panoramic view of Somes Sound and the surrounding mountains. There are other houses nearby, but essentially invisible through the wooded areas on each side of the property. Deer sometimes graze in the back yard. The house has a rustic charm enhanced by decorative rocks and tree branches fashioned into handles, hangers and hooks. Mark knows the quietside well and his suggestions for dining and activities are excellent. The boat trip out of Bass Harbor is exceptionally well done. A trip to RAT's up 102 near Town Hill for clams and lobsters or to Maureen's Manset Little Farm down the road from Mark's place for baked goods will introduce you to two of the area's more memorable characters. MDI is a great vacation spot and Mark's house is an ideal place to stay. We are returning in Oct.

We stayed at Ebb Tide with our two daughters (ages 10 and 15), and were absolutely delighted with the apartment. It is immaculately clean, stocked with absolutely everything we needed (including basic food supplies), very comfortable, and on top of all that, very nicely decorated. Lisa, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. The location is very practical. A two-minute walk to Southwest Harbor's main area, with a variety of restaurants, bakeries, etc. (don't miss trying Cafe 2/Eat-a-Pita, it was one of our favorites on MDI). And a reasonable drive (15-20 mins) to Bar Harbor and main entrance to Acadia National Park. The only minor downside was traffic noise early in the morning, as bedroom windows face the main road. One room has an A/C, which we used to keep the room quiet. It wasn't a big deal, but if you're a light sleeper and want to sleep late, be aware. That said, we were thoroughly satisfied, and would return anytime. And MDI/Acadia is an absolutely wonderful place to visit, especially when blessed with the great weather we had the third week of August. Thank you, Lisa!

What a great getaway! My girlfriend and I were looking for something authentic, cozy, and comfortable; this house was perfect. It has great light, comfortable beds, plenty of space and a spacious deck overlooking the ocean. The island is full of tourists, but we were tucked away a lovely quiet part of town. We walked to the shore, ate at some of the nearby restaurants and took the free shuttle around the island. We got just what we expected from the listing. It was a vacation to remember.
