Great Stay!

5 of 5
We have been to MDI many times and love SW Harbor, but this was our first stay at Central House. What a treat! The house was plenty big for us and our 4 kids, and could have easily accommodated more people. There was ample parking in the back for both of our vehicles. The kitchen was very well-stocked with every kind of cookware we could have wanted, as well as spices, flour, tea, microwave popcorn, soup, and more. The kitchen sink and dishwashers are ultra-modern/professional grade. We greatly appreciated the washer and dryers in the basement, as well as the fact that there was laundry detergent and fabric softener. Everyone loved the showers.. each of which had 3 shower heads.. very luxurious. The upstairs apartment was incredible. While we did not make full use of that space (did not use the kitchen, for example), it would have worked perfectly if we had brought another family on vacation with us. The router for the wireless internet was located on the third floor, which made the connection great if you were on the 3rd or 2nd floor.. not always so great on the first. This might be remedied by moving the router to the 2nd floor? We also enjoyed sitting out on the porch. The location is great if you like to be in town.. we were able to let the kids walk down to the playground unattended, walk to our favorite restaurants, walk the dog to the emergency vet, get to the downtown shops within minutes, etc. We also enjoyed walking to the homemade jam/bread stand.. the kids ate about 2 loaves of homemade bread per day! If you are looking for a super-quiet, remote rental, this may not be the house for you.. while the traffic (car and foot) was moderate, it was fairly consistent. Overall a very pleasant stay, and we would recommend Central House without hesitation.

New, clean, affordable

5 of 5
My first stay in the Acadia area. Our hosts were very polite and quite responsive. They met us at the home when we arrived. They sent my deposit refund back in three days. They gave us some great ideas where to visit, and cheerfully came to get us back in the house when my grandson accidentally locked us out. Will likely stay there again once we decide what week we can visit. My grandkids loved it! The home is neat, clean and orderly. EVERYTHING is new, as they started from scratch in the renovation. The master bedroom is a good size, and has a window air conditioner and flat screen tv. The other two rooms are just right for kids. We could easily have put myself, another adult and four kids in the house. Large backyard with a fire pit - fun. There were two baths, full upstairs and one on the first floor with a shower and laundry area. The cupboards had all we needed to run a home - all new.The back porch was spacious. The parking area is large, allowing you to turn your car (or trailer) around so you can leave the driveway heading out. The home cost $1300, a good price. A short walk from the village center in Southwest Harbor. The Sunday to Sunday rental posed a challenge for us initially, but it worked out well = we missed the Saturday transition traffic. Close to Seawall, SW and Bass Harbor. It really was the quiet side, and I loved it. Church, groceries.

Sanctuary by the Sea

5 of 5
This is a perfect vacation sanctuary in a quiet setting with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The owner went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. From the freshly baked treats upon arrival to the refrigerator stocked with basics, to the fresh cut flower arrangements, music and lighting we knew we were at "home". The kitchen is extremely well equipped. New washer and dryer came in handy. The deck and gazebo provided great sunny space. The puttering of lobster boats in the harbor added a pleasant touch. The location is great - within walking distance of town and Beal's Lobster. Great place for a family.
