Sanctuary by the Sea

5 of 5
This is a perfect vacation sanctuary in a quiet setting with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The owner went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. From the freshly baked treats upon arrival to the refrigerator stocked with basics, to the fresh cut flower arrangements, music and lighting we knew we were at "home". The kitchen is extremely well equipped. New washer and dryer came in handy. The deck and gazebo provided great sunny space. The puttering of lobster boats in the harbor added a pleasant touch. The location is great - within walking distance of town and Beal's Lobster. Great place for a family.

Wonderful family and multi-generational home.

5 of 5
Our group included 12 people from the age of 14 months to 75 years. There was plenty of room where we were not on top of each other unless we wanted to be. The description of the property was accurate. The property was clean and well maintained. The owner and her mother could not have been more accomodating. We had beautiful views and could walk to restaurants and town. We spent part of a day on a lobster boat that was docked across the street from the house. The children especially loved stuffing mesh bags with dead fish to rebait the traps (go figure!). The captain said that was the first time anyone had offered. We docked at Little Cranberry Island for a picnic and bought lobster from the lobster co-op to take home. Delicious. One suggestion would be to explain and label garbage, returnable and recycling containers. We would definitely recommend this house to everyone. Go and enjoy!

Beautiful secluded waterfront home

5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here with 9 adults and our new baby, including my in-laws and my own parents. Needless to say, we needed space for everyone's peace and privacy. This home was perfect. The wrap-around porch was a great place to relax and watch the yachts and lobster boats head out of Southwest Harbor. The porch also gave us great views of the sunrise over Acadia's mountains (as do three of the six bedrooms). The large picture windows in the living room offered the same views and the window seats were great spots for reading or napping. Almost all of us gathered around the living room fire each night. The kitchen was amazingly well stocked and very clean. We cooked dinner at the house every night with everyone fitting comfortably around the large dining room table. The house is about 2 miles from the town of Southwest Harbor. We really loved this town. It has a nice gourmet market, a wine & cheese shop, a few clothing boutiques, a very affordable nine hole golf course right on the water, and a fantastic library--although the house has a formidable library in its own right--so you might never feel compelled to venture to the town library. The owner and the caretakers were very responsive and helpful. We would definitely stay at the house again.
