Ideal Maine Beach Location & Amenities

5 of 5
We booked the Birdhouse based on location - close proximity to our daughter's family in South Portland and the Willard Beach neighborhood which we know to be ideal. The Birdhouse is everything a cozy beach cottage should be; easy access to activities during the day, and warm comfort at night. The home was furnished with very satisfactory amenities. Since we like to cook ourselves we were delighted with a very well appointed kitchen, from the large modern range to the top-quality knives & cookware. We did take advantage of local dining more than once; at the not-to-be-missed and walking distance Scratch Bakery, at Otto Pizza nearby. Also we dined at Boone's in Portland on the pier next to the excellent purveyor at HarborFish, where we purchased seafood to prepare at the Birdhouse. Our daughter, son-in-law & grandchildren enjoyed meeting up with us at "the Beach house" to take walks on Willard Beach, and go on excursions to Ft. Williams & the Portland Headlight, a trip to Randall's Apple Farm, as well as a hike around Mackworth Island, a short 20 minute drive near Yarmouth. We had a week full of memories with family yet appreciated having our own comfortable abode at the Birdhouse to getaway and relax as a couple. We definitely recommend this property and hope to return ourselves.

Highly recommended

This home is excellent. It is meticulously updated and maintained. It's small, but 10 times better than a hotel room. Even though it is in an urban/suburban neighborhood, there is no road noise at all - just the occasional fog horn. Four good restaurants are a 5-10 minute walk away. It's really just a cool place where people live with lots of things to do and see. The whole area around South Portland did not feel touristy to us at all. Finally, even though we were pleasantly surprised by everything else, the main reason we picked this house is because it was one of the only houses on the Maine coastline that will allow a stay of less than 1 week. Coming from California, where it's rare for more than 2 or 3 nights to be required, I couldn't believe people put up with almost every owner requiring a full week stay or more. Thank you Patti and Britt!
