You can't get closer to the water!

My husband and I were looking for a cozy cottage with a fireplace on the ocean to spend a relaxing Columbus Day weekend and that's exactly what we found here. We loved the setting of the cottage, nestled in the pines right on the Damariscotta River with views toward the ocean and stunning sunsets. Huge windows on the first floor take advantage of the views and both of us gasped when we came downstairs our first morning and saw the view in the daytime. The cottage isn't fancy, with a dated kitchen and furniture, but for us, that simply adds to the rustic "Maine camp" atmosphere. Plenty of firewood was available and the fireplace heated the main room in a hurry. We cooked our meals and found the kitchen well stocked with all the cookware one could want, plus rockweed within spitting distance to use to steam your lobster (lobster available just down the road in South Bristol at the Co-op). It does get cold in the shoulder seasons, as one would expect for this type of uninsulated property in Maine, but we were well prepared with warm clothes. There were space heaters in each room as well, which was an unexpected bonus. For those wanting to explore, this is a beautiful area with lots to see--the charming town of Damariscotta, the Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay (stop and pick up some Glidden Point oysters on your way), and Pemaquid Point/lighthouse to name just a few. Tim was responsive and helpful through all of our emails with him. We'd love to come back someday!

Fabulous space in a beautiful location

5 of 5
Joy's studio was perfect for our short Maine vacation. Next time, we hope to stay for a week, at least! When we arrived and walked up the stairs to the studio, my daughter exclaimed, "Wow! Can I live here?!" The space is bright and open with a high ceiling. It is literally an art studio/studio apartment with everything in one large room, but so cleverly arranged that as you move from cooking to eating to lounging to sleeping, it feels like several rooms. The studio is fully equipped with all those things that I often wish other places had thought to provide. We loved watching the birds coming to the feeders on the balcony. The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed the fresh cut flowers from Joy's garden. The location is quiet enough to be a "get-away", but Damariscotta, South Bristol, Christmas Cove, and Boothbay Harbor are easy to get to. The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a must-do trip. Joy was a gracious host and very accommodating. She has lots of information available and suggestions about area attractions, if you need them. The arrangements for our rental, arrival, and departure were smooth and easy. We look forward to returning next year!

Fantastic vacation at this location!

This is a great vacation get away. If you are looking for relaxtion and nature at its best this is the place to do it. The cabin was lovely and perfect. The large screened porch made for quiet evenings and the secluded cove perfect for kayaking and exploring. The owner Pete was the most wonderful man who gave us the history of the cabin that he himself built. It was perfect in every way. He also provided us with advice for visiting the many wonderful local sites and guided us to the best kayaking site that we thoroughly enjoyed and is a must to experience..All our comfort needs were met and we look forward to visiting again.
