MAGICAL STAY - 5 STARS PLUS!

                      5 of 5
Magical... that's how we'd describe our weeklong experience in Treetops! What a lovely combination of elegance and comfortable living... for example, underneath the counter in the butler's pantry is a whole drawer full of art supplies for kids! Please review the pictures - they're gorgeous, but hardly can do justice to the whole. We had 16 in all, 4 generations ranging in age from 2 to 80, and all were comfortable! The early risers enjoyed the sunshine and quiet with coffee on the porch without disturbing teenagers who slept until noon! (Ditto the night owls enjoyed the sprawling porches and view of the sound in moonlight without in the least disturbing those who slept early.) The color and texture of the gardens (front and back) were a feast for the eyes, and we even clipped a few stems to enjoy inside. The spacious kitchen welcomed all who were hungry or who just wanted to linger over a glass of wine or a mug of steaming coffee (and the fridge and freezer are commercial-sized). When family togetherness got to be a bit much, it was easy to find a comfortable place to hide away with book or music... yet, the graciously sized dining and living room accommodated Mom's 80th birthday celebration with room to spare! Hide and seek heaven! Gorgeous master suite, yet every other room is spacious and a gem, too. In the manner of Fred Savage homes from that era, there are shared baths on each floor (2 on 1st, 4 on 2nd, 2 on 3rd), but amazingly there is plenty of hot water and no one ever waited for a bathroom. The home is spotless, the owner is gracious and eager for you to enjoy your stay, and the wonderful caretaker, Duncan, could not be nicer or more helpful! Walk down the hill to the bakery/pizza place for piping hot muffins in the morning; deposit them on the table for the late risers, and bike to Jordan Pond from the house. You're within an easy drive of Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Cadillac Mtn. In fact, you can take the Island Explorer anywhere you want to go from its stop at the bottom of the hill! Just down the hill are wharf and sandy beaches. Abel's Lobster Pound accommodated 16 of us for a grand dinner, and we enjoyed Seafood Ketch one day in Bass Harbor. This lovely home, Treetops, is a sparkling addition to the mix of rental places - go and enjoy! You'll be so glad you did!

                      GREAT LOCATION; FUNKY FURNISHINGS

                      4 of 5
This house was a great location for easy access to Acadia NP -- hiking, biking, driving. Also, short drive to Northeast Harbor, where day cruises depart from. Had lots of room, including a lovely porch. However, the furnishings are mostly old -- like a first post-college apartment in the 1960s. So, we would recommend for families.
