PERFECT FOR OUR FAMILY REUNION!

5 of 5
We chose Chateau Mer for our family reunion not just because it seemed to have enough space for us (17, altogether) to gather together, but also enough spaces to spread out. Both turned out to be true, and the house and, overall, our experience exceeded our expectations. The location of the house is even more beautiful and convenient than the pictures and descriptions convey. The view of the sea from the large deck and the balcony above is gorgeous, regardless of the time of day or the weather. Getting to the beach is easy (though going back up might be taxing for those for whom stairs are a difficulty), and the beach was always empty, even with the public beach right around the corner. The kids enjoyed the sand and the water all day, and we all had a lovely time under a super-moon around a bonfire at night. We took day trips to Belfast, Searsport (the Penobscot Museum was a hit with young and old alike), Acadia National Park and Fort Knox--all within an easy drive. The house was plenty large for our group. We had adult couples in the postmodern bedroom and two the grotto; two teens in the den; a couple with two teens in the Mexican suite (the statue where the kids were was a little scary at first); a couple with a young child in the toy room; and a couple with two small children in the loft. The long table and the great room provided plenty of space for everyone, even on rainy days, and the rooms were separate enough to allow anyone who wanted some space to get away. The whole house is decorated with interesting art, and it is thoughtfully designed to accommodate groups like ours. Working with Barbara was great. She was very clear in her communications with us, and provided everything we needed. Her assistants helped us get settled in, and checked on us several times during the week. She was herself staying nearby, and also stopped by to make sure everything was going well. The only thing which might have been improved was the check-out time which, at 9:00 a.m., is earlier than many places we've stayed. We felt a bit rushed, and it is unfortunate that that should be among our last impressions of the visit. I would suggest hiring a few more people to clean in between visitors so that guests not feel panicked about getting out on Friday morning. Overall, though, everyone had a splendid time, and we will definitely consider coming back the next time our reunion is in Maine. Many wonderful memories!

PERFECT MAINE VACATION SITE

5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. I was amazed at all the "extras" provided like fresh flowers, bottles of lemonade, fresh fruit, basic kitchen food items, etc. There was even a dishwasher and a washer and dryer in the cottage. The cottage is decorated very tastefully with mostly new furniture and it felt like home. We were immediately comfortable. The view out the front palladian window was wonderful. It overlooked Penobscot Bay which is very scenic. The living/dining room combination was very spacious with lots of natural light. We spent a lot of time sitting in two comfortable chairs looking out the front window. It was very relaxing. There was plenty to do within short driving distances--flea markets, antique and craft shops, forts, bridge observatory, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, a couple of light houses, and a Sandy Beach plus a nearby historic town with lots of historical markers. If you are looking for excitement this probably isn't the place for you, but if you just need a get away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life I don't think you could improve on a stay at this cottage. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing vacation in a quiet surrounding. It was our first time in Maine and I can't imagine we could have found a more perfect spot. The owners have gone above and beyond in making their cottage comfortable for their guests. They are pleasant to work with and it is obvious their goal is the comfort of their guests.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE

5 of 5
A wonderful, scenic, and quiet oasis in the middle of Maine touristic madness. The property is spotless and the private entrance to the bay/beach is definitely a plus. The cottage is newly renovated and the panoramic 180 view is stunning, especially from the private deck. The hosts (Bill and Claudia) are very respectful of your privacy, yet available when you need tips. This is a prime location: easy to get to the Acadia National Park and other sight seeing musts on the coast. The kitchen organization is not for gourmets, yet is manageable. We would go back without hesitation and we highly recommend the place for those of you who love privacy, quietness, and stunning views on the bay.
