Great Maine cabin!

5 of 5
This place was great! The cabin was clean, perfect size, awesome screened in porch and the dock was a blast. The owners allow you to use their kayaks and the entire area is beautiful. Take the short cruise over to Mt. Kineo to further enhance your visit for a very nice hike or round of golf. The towns were close enough to enjoy the scenery while taking a short ride. There were very cool places to enjoy lunch/dinner while sitting right on the water just minutes around the corner. I can't say enough good things, just wish I lived a little closer (we are from the Philadelphia area) because I would visit more often. Thank you Ryan and Shweta!

Great family vacation!!!

5 of 5
What a great family vacation!! The house was beautiful and spotless!!! Dealing with Patsy was a pleasure and she answered all of our questions both before and during our stay!! The house came equipped with everything mentioned and then some, what ever I seemed to have forgotten, Pasty had in the house!! Being on the lake was a treat for us and our two boys (ages 15 and 11), they went fishing throughout the week and we spent most evenings down on the deck/beach. We enjoyed the canoe and the boys had adventures finding new things along the lake and swimming. Listening to the loons, watching the stars at night and the hummingbirds were amazing!! In the area we were able to go on a few hikes, Mt. Kineo was great, the B-52 bomber on Elephant Mountain was something to see and the waterfall at Moxie Falls was beautiful. We took a float plane ride and that was a lot of fun!! We also took a canoe moose watching tour with Northwood's Outfitters and we got to see a moose!! We could not have asked for a better family vacation!!

Once in a lifetime vacation

5 of 5
We gather from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Boston for a week-long 80th birthday celebration for my father in-law. The dirt road is long, so you know the property is private. Each turn you leave your busy life behind and begin to exhale and take in the clean air. You have now entered Deer Lodge land and see a most welcoming meandering pathway of rocks and plants marking off the 5 separate buildings on this truly one of a kind property. Kathryn and Christian have turned the original boys camp from the 1900s into a home compound worthy of the set "On Golden Pond" or "Northern Exposure". The kitchen is stocked for any type of chef - gourmet to grill master. We claimed "kid land" as the building with a large flat tv (no cable) and a bookcase full of games and DVDs which they could occupy as the adults had wine in the main lodge. Deer Lodge is a place where everyone has their own experiences. A grandfather reading his book, a son creating lego space ships, and a niece on her laptop updating her virtual world game. Yes, there is wifi. Here are a few things we did during the week: Rent a boat from The Birches and drive 10 minutes across the lake from Deer Lodge to Mount Kineo for a hike. Pack a picnic and walk 20 minutes into the forest to see Moxie Falls. Contact Moxie Outdoor and take a 1/2 day duckie (kayak) down the lower Kennebec River. It was perfect for our entire family as we floated for 2 hours with a gentle current. Adventure seekers don't miss doing a full day of white water rafting. Visit the cute town of Greenville and don't miss The Moosehead Historical Society. The docents dressed in period costume and explain the rich history of Greenville along with the gossip. It's a small home, so would suggest leaving the kids behind. It received distinction as one of the finest small town museums in the country. Communication was top-notch before, during, and after our stay, as both owners helped to create a magical week in Moosehead. They were so generous with their time and knowledge. I never felt rushed when I kept asking just one more question from Los Angeles. This is more than a rental, this is their special family place and we feel honored to be able to spend time in this wonderful home. If I could rate this with 10 stars I would! Thank you Kathryn and Christian for making this a week my family will never ever forget.
