Each year for our family vacation, we make matching t-shirts (yes, we are THAT family!). Our t-shirts this year read "Have Fun, That's The Maine Thing!" and boy did we have fun. Where do I begin?
We were traveling from Southern NJ with a 19th month old. Maggie was so kind and provided us with a pack n' play, high chair, and stroller so we had extra room in the car to pack necessities. The house is a very quick walk to the beach (on a quiet, safe road for walking). Coming from DE/NJ beaches which can be touristy/crowded, Willard Beach was a breath of fresh air- quiet with friendly folks. There are several playgrounds within walking distance. We also enjoyed Scratch Bakery and Willard Scoops (2 minute walk) almost every day. Maggie's suggestions for places to eat were top notch- David's, Taco Trio, Otto's Pizza (free delivery after a long beach day!), and more. Also, if you have little one's, plan a day to go the Children's Museum- you won't be disappointed. Exploring Old Port was a fun day activity- we had the freshest lobster rolls at DiMillo's and the Portland Lobster Company. Old Port also has great shops- the toy shop was a hit! If you are an animal lover, Portland is very animal friendly, with dog friendly beaches and shops. Our cat decided to sit this vacation out!
As to the house, Maggie thought of everything you may need. The house was clean, bright, and cheery. The kitchen was fully stocked with cleaning supplies, pots/pans, etc etc. You only need to bring your food. The bedrooms were the perfect size for our family and the bathrooms were updated in a modern fashion. All necessities are there, including beach towels. A washer and dryer was very helpful with a little one. There is WiFi, books, games, etc. Maggie even supplies beach chairs and bikes if you need them! There is a fenced in backyard with chairs and a fire pit to enjoy. We didn't have any problems with the house, but I'm sure if we did, Maggie would have been on top of it.
Is there anything we didn't like or would change? We would have stayed longer! And Scratch Bakery should be open 24 hours/day!
Hands down, an awesome vacation! We were so glad Maggie welcomed us into her home. Once we have our schedules for next summer, we will be making travel plans to stay again!
