We were beyond pleased with our visit to the studio apartment in the heart of Portland! The location was ideal – we were able to access any part of the downtown including west and east promenades, market area, Old Port, shoreline, park, lake, and ferry marina within 5 – 20 minutes. We truly left the car in the parking lot and spent 90% of our trip on our feet or our bikes exploring this fabulous city. Although we likely brought the 90-degree temperatures with us from the DC region, there was always a nice breeze coming from the waters and the high elevations. Additionally, Sue and Barry’s apartment offered a window AC unit and ceiling fan that made our warm evenings quite comfortable. The apartment is quaintly furnished with well-kept antique pieces. The kitchen offers all the necessities for a modern day cook. There was a small table and chairs for dining or computer work. There is even a comfortable settee for curling up with a good book. The newly updated bathroom is a work of art! Although petite, the apartment offered everything that we needed and we could not have asked for better lodging or hosts. Sue and Barry treated us like family during our stay. We had access to their laundry room and back yard patio. Barry even came to our rescue with a bike pump when an unexpected flat threatened our plans for a ride. Portland's food/dining also exceeded our expectations. We are healthy eaters who mostly follow vegetarian diets. We found that every restaurant offered several options and the ambiance of most of the places we visited was so welcoming. I honestly wish that we lived closer and could book this room for getaway weekends in the fall, winter, and spring. We strongly encourage couples or adults to visit for a relaxing and nurturing vacation. Sue and Barry have created their own oasis in Portland and fortunately have decided to share it with others!
