The apartment was clean and lovely, nicely furnished and decorated, and within walking distance of many conveniences. We loved the neighborhood, found lots to do and enjoyed Portland very much. I would recommend purchasing Old Port passes that give access to 5 attractions at a reduced cost. One can take many tours of the city or self-directed lighthouse or walking tours.
However, some of the amenities listed for this vacation rental were not available: shampoo, Mac and PC computers. We ended up walking to a gas-station convenience store at 11:30 pm for shampoo. (I suggested to the owner that items be removed from future listings, if not available.)
The coffee maker didn't work and the hair dryer (which we couldn't find for several days) died after one use.
The electricity was shut off for a day ---we were not informed ahead of time as other building tenants were. After power was restored, it took several hours before we could access wifi again. The locks to the apartments were difficult.---keys stuck in both doors to the apartment, although the door into the building was easy.
Be aware that the apartment is on the second floor of an old building (no elevator.) We were unaware of this ---probably should have asked ---and although we don't need ramps or elevators on a day-to-day basis, we are an older couple with some arthritis and back problems, so carrying our belongings in and out were difficult.
The owners were out of town. The woman they left in charge did her best to resolve our issues.
Since the apartment was very nice, I would love to be able to give it a 5-star rating. Even though nothing was terrible, the small inconveniences accumulated day by day, so we cannot give it a top rating.
